M7040 you will find keeping grass mowed at 4 inches leads to healthy grass less weeds so I’m told. Started doing that in 1985 never quit. Just food for thought
I am a 3 1/2 to 4 inch person mowing around the property myself.

I think right now with the dry weather it helps. My neighbor scalps her yard, it is a lot browner than mine at this point in time.

Purely observation, no scientific method applied. Did not sleep at Holiday Inn last night.

Found it

Interesting.

I am a fan of predators. They keep the deer busy. I usually find a good part of a deer at least twice a month around here that has been gnawed on.

In VA, they are considered pests. open season year round....except on Sunday.

At night, when they are out and about, I love hearing them howl back and forth.

Same.

Usually 4" on the front lawn and the compost/woodlot, then 3.5" down here around the house.

Was just looking out the window at the back lawn, thinking how is the grass staying so green ?

The long length of cut is the only thing I can attribute it to ... since we are far below normal for monthly rainfall, nearby local weather station reports only 0.29" for the entire month of August.

I suspect we may have actually had less than that here.

72.5F and mostly cloudy @ 13:30, WU was only calling for a high 71F for the day. Nearby LWS reports 42.6F was this morning's low ...

Just noticed when I got up that some of the leaves on the maples are starting to turn color.

Lake effect rain showers should move in later this afternoon and evening. With thunder possible.

Spent the entire afternoon leisurely hand watering some of the garden yesterday. Very time consuming. Did not get anything else done.

Got eggplant, kohlrabi, sweet bell peppers, okra, and Sunny Boy tomatoes done, 32 oz. each.

Think I'm going to look into drip irrigation for next year.

Also did some pruning on summer squash and the Sunny Boy tomatoes.

Plenty of yellow squash still on the way ... counted 5 fruits on just one plant alone ... and there are more on the other plants ... lol.

Have significant Powdery Mildew on some of the plants ... which hasn't seemed to hurt production:

Woman picked up take out from the Chinese place, had the Roast Pork Egg Foo Young which I haven't had in a while, was very tasty.

Might venture outside here in a bit and see if I can get anything that I didn't get done yesterday crossed off the list.

Otherwise looks to be an inside day.

Crud is still creeping ... runny nose and congestion in my chest, snot is clear though ... so I figure that's a good thing.

Hope everyone is having a decent Thursday ... (y)

Consumer Cellular is what we have now. Senior discount rates, very happy. $55 each phone+$20 home phone/month.
This is called Visible. It's still sort of verizon, but online only with no store support. A prepaid fixed rate, unlimited data. One plan is $20 month, I went with $29 month with faster download speed, those are first year discount plan. My oldest son transfered a few months ago, has had no reduction in service.
My wife's phone now working, I had to redo the Esim download, once I cleared the 30 min wait period.

Wife is at a tea with the ladies, so I ran into Chipotle for lunch. When she goes out, I go out. sometimes I go out when she doesn't. lol

Just read recently that Delaware was now the 49th state to have a coyote population, with Hawaii being the lone holdout.

Farmers are against hunting them as they help with the deer population.
I’m for keeping it that way

The farmers here either give you free access to hunt them or seek hunters out to kill them. They prey on calves. I haven’t seen any this year but I feel they are about
A couple years back just before we purchased pur property, the Coyotes were bad and harassing the cattle across the street.

Neighbor to the south of us, went out with a night vision scope and thinned them out.

The ones that were able to avoid the purge moved elsewhere and haven't been back.

The closest i've seen a coyote was about 3/4 of a mile away heading away from my place down a power line right of way.

There are a few folks that scalp their yards around me.

Then spend $$$ on water to keep the stuff green.

I'll cut the yard down to 3" in the spring, but thats because it grows really fast. As it starts getting dryer out, I'll bump it to 3.5" and the up to 4".

Then fall I'll start cutting agin at 3" to pulverise the leaves with the mulching kit.

I do not rake. I'll blow the leaves out away from the flower beds and the house, and then chop them with the mower.
