Have a Kubota L5740. I suspect the lift pump is going bad but was wondering...When I disconnect the output side of the lift pump (it is actuated by cam) and then try and start the engine, should there be a good steady stream of diesel coming out the out port of the pump (the line going to the injectors). When I do this, the flow of diesel seems to be irratic, not a regular flow.

I guess I should have added that flow coming from the tank is good. Flow coming out the water separater is good and flow going into the lift pump is good.

I don't think it is a gear pump so the flow will not be steady you should get pulses of fuel due to the design of the pump.
