I wonder how much money they save by hiring you to mow it instead of buying a tractor and a batwing to do it themselves?

Makes me wonder how much money I spend on mowing per year, plus the time I spend getting fuel and making sure everything is ready to mow, then fixing what I break when I'm out mowing?

Seems like the smart money is in hiring it out and not doing it yourself.

@EddieWalker The cost of the mowing has just been shifted to someone else. But if you consider the time savings you get if someone else mows it, then yes you now can do work for someone else. Jon

There isn’t a person alive in that community with the b@lls to cut the steep slopes they have. Probably not the even the flat areas, for that matter.

Right. Thats why they are smart hiring me!

What is their reasoning....if there is any.?
They say…..

Too much noise to make hay v. rotary mowing
Nobody wants me to access the field over their precious yards.

Strangely, there is a tractor access path, but they didn't maintain it and it was allowed to overgrow with trees & brush.

Another crazy day….
Started with loading some bales.

Here’s (2) more 1800 pounders on the forks ready to go on the trailer.

Then over to a new field I just acquired! :) Small, but connected to a much larger parcel I already farm, so it’s a nice additional 10 acres. Looks like a little milkweed coming in…

You see the nice home off to the right in the distance? A little birdy told me they might be bringing me on board next year to hay their property.

Back to some hay mowing. Check out my new “hood ornament” for the Massey 7495.
You have to look real close….

The slopes on the pond that I mow up at the Church can get interesting! They hauled in loads and loads of clay when they dug the pond, and it can make it interesting. The last time I mowed, the 4wd tractor did not want to climb the hills, and going sideways the tractors wheels had to be turned uphill to go sideways.
I wish you were closer, as I would enlist your help in mastering the slopes!

I made some tweaks & repairs to the Krone baler. It baled the first 8 bales perfectly.
Hoping to make a bunch more tomorrow. Today was more of a “testing” day.

Bales look great. Tight and symmetrical.

Looks like we are ready for a long & tiring but hopefully productive second cutting!

ALL THE GLORY TO GOD.

How does the baler compress those big square bales? Is it similar to a small square baler? Or something different? Around here I've only seen round balers.
