The first manufacturer to offer emissions free diesel power, with new power numbers/fuel mileage numbers, will need to operate 24/7 to take care of the rush to buy. It will happen...then all manufactures will get on board.
I would bet my paycheck ot won't happen though. We got 3 years under the current administration and there isn't any telling what will happen after that.

What happens if the next administration goes after those pieces of equipment because they determined it was unlawful to lower the emmision standards

Stellantis is bringing back the SRT Division from its grave, so the move is on. It won't surprise me one bit if Ram/Cummins leads the rush.

If it don't happen, you can say I told you so, if it does happen, I will say I told you so:D

Depending on the horsepower they aren't required to have def fluid.

So thats a slew of sensors that you don't have to worry about.

Some models do not require regeneration. They still have a particulate filter. But they run hotter exhaust temps to burn off the carbon.
I suppose people adapt and learn a new curve..but I'm an old guy who doesn't have the time or money to reinvent myself when the old way costs less and works just fine

the problem; they,(the bureaucratic rule makers and Congress pundits), like the energizer bunny, keep going and going and going. It's always been a foot in the door, then the leg, then the whole body.
.....The war on fossil fuels is a political hijacking, essentially aimed at extracting money from the public and pushing virtual signalling political agendas (with a large payoff in the end not only for those supplying the technology but those bought off politicians making the rules) .....No problem for the bullet proof global elites, and the middle working class gets to be their test subjects. "They" will eventually spread and creep into everything... at least it's what history shows us.

They have a plan to eliminate fossil fuels....a cart before the horse plan.

I am wondering how many had to scrap their small engine machines when ethanol was added? I use the "clear" in my small engines...been ok and still own some that are over 30 years old and running like new.

So doing some research and talking to the actual techs when shopping at a stealership can get you looking in the right direction.

I do parked regens on my bog forklift at the the shop since it doesn't get run long enough to complete a regen.

We just got a new Hyundai forklift that's even bigger then our old one. I gotta call who we bought it from to see about getting the manual for it.

I haven't been able to figure out how to do a parked regen on it.

I'll have to look for the dongle to hook the diesel laptop to it and trigger a service regen. I've just been having trouble finding said dongle on the engine harness
The new electric forklift at work has computer-controlled regen.

The above is a hallucination I had when I tried some off the stuff the legislature gets high on. I should have put this in the humor thread but it needs the context of this one.

Couldn't we pay politicians to not make laws, like they pay some farmers to not grow crop?
Problem is, we can't outbid the top dogs. Here come da laws . . .

I'm just making fun of them, our politicians are the best you can get for the money.

They’d be fools not to.
Diesel truck owners have had their rear ends flogged for 15 years with this nonsense.
Make DPF/DEF optional. You want the DPF/DEF system as an option, so you can be virtuous? Then YOU pay for it. My guess is maybe 10% of buyers will pay for it.
Probably still not a bad idea in big cities. Out in the Country? stupid.

I beat that by one year when I bought my new Kioti tractor. ( it was tier four but not the final version) no reburner..... they had one 2012 clutch model left on the lot...Everyone wants hydro stat nowadays...but i wanted the clutch cause none of my land is flat. It was both research and a bit of luck but very glad I didn't have to fuss with the ongoing and forever increasing burden and cost on mandated so-called green energy.
I did the same and bought my Kubota L3800, rather than the newer L3901 with DPF and regen. To me, a tractor should be as simple mechanically as possible.

I believe it’s fairly simple… voter and taxpayer are not linked…

I can’t speak for California or even the SF Bay Area but I spent plenty of late nights at city council meetings and it was for nothing…

Follow the money in programs and grants is telling and then add folks that have never had to make a payroll and/or toil to put a roof over their head or food on the table and chasm is wide.

The problem when using other peoples money is when the money dries up…

Firms continue to flee… some with very long histories here.

The mayor of my city has voiced support for a living minimum wage of $50.

The wage carve outs for fast food has has hit hard… when a hugely successful In and Out leaves or a new Walmart closes and 7/11 struggle for to theft and robbery… the future isn’t looking bright.

It’s already illegal to operate a brush cutter trimmer or blower here… the future ban of gas and diesel new vehicles is real… so was banning natural gas in new homes as well as solid fuel fireplaces/stoves.

Oregon, California and Washington often move in lockstep… the metro hubs pretty decide for all.

Without me asking or asking for more money, my landscaper has mostly switched over to battery electric lawn care equipment. Our city does not mandate it yet but the writing is on the wall.

At my parents' house where I do the yard work, I use three battery tools (mower, trimmer, blower). One battery gets me through the entrie yard and it's a decent size corner lot of about 9,000sq ft (for around here). I have three batteries and three chargers.

On a personal level my wife and I both drive battery EVs and we also have an old truck that's obviously not an EV.

Driving the truck to the gas station and paying $75 for a tank that gets 220 miles is just a terrible experience overall at this point. 220 miles in either EV costs no more than $9.

One of the EVs has enough range for us to drive from San Diego to Las Vegas on one charge.

Every EV owner I talk to feels the same. It's a vastly superior option if you can charge at home and drive less than 150 miles per day on average.

Overall, I'm on board with switching to battery for MY lifestyle right now. It's been great and I have no regrets other than not doing it sooner.

It's come a long way and with more adoption and infrastructure it will be a smarter and smarter choice for more and more people.

There was a time when the public had to cope with phasing out horses when a better solution came along. I'm sure early engines had many downsides compared to the good old reliable equine.

This isn't to say that policy level decisions are always the way to go. Sometimes they have unintended consequences. But there was no policy or law that mandated I switch to EVs, though there were many state and federal efforts to help advance the adoption as there are with many things. The free market gave me the option and I made the decision that I thought was right for me based on what I would like to think was a sound and sensible process.

Circling back to the beginning of my post, I am going to assume that my landscaper made the decision that was best for him as well. That's the way it should be.

And related to battery powered tools, this morning I learned that a man who had collected tools and parts for his project Studebaker for 40 years lost his garage to a...you guessed it, a lithium tool battery being charged. Sad.

No idea if he used quality tools and batteries, but I don't even leave my top of the line batteries on a charger unattended.

Did the same and bought L3800… zero issues.
