Does any one strain their diesel?

I strain through a funnel. I'm glad the dead bugs and fly wings don't end up in my tractor tank. Given my bulk fuel tank is sealed they are either in the fuel or they crawl up the spout.

I use a funnel with a screen for all "can to tank" fuel transfers. Experience and observation have shown me it is a good idea to do so.

We have a zero turn Deere F935, 1986, that has used fuel straight from the can it's entire life, two tanks, one or the other is always full, half full or empty, winter fuel in winter, summer fuel in summer, the previous owner knew nothing of filtering. The number of times it's been down for fuel related issues has been none. The old 4020s had fuel filters, used fuel from a 500gal leaky tank, and we would just unscrew a little, dump the water and tighten back up again. Yet the new Kioti, I'm obsessed. Go figure. Mr funnel, fuel additives for h2o, make sure the tank is always full, and the see through filter at 600hrs on it looks pristine. Part of it is I don't want to fool with diesel. And part of it is there are better ways. A couple gallons gets me 3hrs use, which get's me through most chores, so that's where I'm at. 5gallon cans, treat, mr funnel into 2gal container, store till needed, keep the tank topped off.

Oh, I should add, Whenever I look into any of my several plastic five gallon fuel jugs, I'm always impressed with the amount of GRUNGE in the bottoms.

'might be why I regularly use the strainer funnel. ;-)

I used to use a Mr. funnel, but never caught anything. I have since stopped using it. Never saw anything in any of my fuel filters either.
I also don't wash/rinse/repeat when I wash my hair...
I also strain the fuel through the funnel and really never caught much. The OP should change to a different source.

You got me wondering with that post, so I checked my can. Clean as a whistle. That said, I'm not a heavy user like some of you. I guesstimated maybe 40ish refills. My new tractor does have a screen in filler neck of tank, so I'm not going all rogue here...

My diesel is filtered twice. First using a 10 micron filter on my bulk tank, which I use to fill a portable tank. That one is equipped with another 10 micro filter and used to fuel my diesel equipment.

Around here, a blue nozzle cover signifies gasoline. Green is used for diesel on a nozzle that is too large to insert into a gasoline powered vehicle. That is also the way my GPI filling equipment is sold.

Does any one strain their diesel fuel through a funnel with a good screen. For years I just poured my fuel in from a jug. But a few years ago I got a different tractor and I use a funnel to keep from spilling it. I notice after about 10 gal I have to clean the strainer out. It's not from dirt in my jug and purchase diesel at different places. Looks almost powder when dried. (I put my funnel in a storage bucket when done also)
I don’t strain my fuel oil, but I had to buy a big plastic funnel for my XM and it has a filter screen in it, but that’s not the point of my post, I also decided to start storing my funnel 4/5 years ago in a 5 gallon bucket that I bought a screw on lid for 5 gallon buckets and it works out excellent.

You can buy the 5 gal screw on lids at Amazon

FWIW: I bought some clear organizer boxes awhile back to store my funnels in to keep them clean.

All the best, Peter
