Another idea to consider: rent a large enough all terrain lift and start topping it from the top down. A day's rental is probably all you need.

You could probably hire a tree service to cut it down no clean up included for not much more money than renting a lift.

The big known Ribber steak house uses Hickory for their smokers. They have storage boxes of it for everyday setting waiting.

Think dad uses hickory and oak for his uses.

I use Apple myself for my little smoker. Being I have a unlimited supply after a tornado.

That tree doesn't look like a 100 footer. And just from the crude pics I would saw those branches off one at a time. The advantage of not having one strong central leader up to the canopy is that you can saw off pieces at a time.

It does have a lot of small branches. This tells me it hasent been dead for too long. If the smallest limbs were inch and a half I would worry some too. Grab that Stihl and go look like a man. Conquer!!!!!!
