Snow Blower Sizing - Opinions Wanted

Just thought I'd provide an update to the thread. So far I'm loving the 84" WIFO behind my 5155. The video and attached pictures are from yesterday's storm, about 13" of heavy snow. Knock on wood, but I don't have a single complaint about this setup. Power-wise, the tractor seems to handle the...

Ever see a tractor crack in half?

I saved these pictures from a local For Sale ad a few years ago. "For parts or repair." Not sure if it ever sold, his asking price was high if I remember correctly, around $30k. Ridiculous. In my opinion, looks like the owner was pounding his tractor over some rough terrain with a grapple that...

Using oil in a diesel engine that doesn't say for a diesel.

Yes it does, the oil should be CJ4 or CK4 rated. Generally, diesel engines have different oil property requirements compared to gasoline engines (stronger detergent, zinc additives, ect.), and the appropriate oil should be used.

    Re-blow with pull behind snowblower.

OP, I also upgraded my snow moving equipment this year with a pull-type blower and SSQA snow pusher. I had previously been using a SSQA blade. My clearing needs sound similar to yours, I have a long driveway plus outbuilding yards with alleys between buildings. For your scenario, I think you...

    Best Snowplow for Tractor?

Yeah, it's not the best. The underslung design like Chim and Gordon utilize is definitely superior.

    Best Snowplow for Tractor?

Wow, I guess I had never seen your setup before, Gordon. I like that a lot, looks like a good solution to every issue I've had with my plow setup, which are: -Long overall length -Plow pushes the tractor sideways when winging wet snow -Lack of down pressure Thanks for sharing, looks like I have...

Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Pictures of your snow weapons

Just my opinion, but I would prioritize chains over the snow pusher. I went from clearing with my bucket, to an 8' snow plow, to a 7' snow pusher. The snow pusher does the best job by far, but it also pushes the hardest by far. Much harder than pushing with the bucket. I've never tried using the...

    Best Snowplow for Tractor?

A few pics of my snow plow setup. It's pretty simple, an 8' Fisher straight blade (pickup truck plow) attached to a Titan SSQA-to-3PH conversion plate. I installed Cat 1 pins in the plows' a-frame where it previously attached to the headgear, then attached the lift chain to the top link...

Snow Blower Sizing - Opinions Wanted

Thank you! Yup, very happy with it so far. Just need some more snow to fall so I can try it out in some other conditions. Bought some new snow removal tools and of course now we're experiencing unseasonably warm temps with not a flake of snow forecast for the next 10 days. We had been...

Snow Blower Sizing - Opinions Wanted

Thank you! As for a cab tractor, maybe someday, but I think it would be hard to justify. Clearing the road is pretty much the only task I would want to use it for, for most everything else I prefer the open station. Besides clearing snow, I use my tractor primarily for logging and clearing...

Snow Blower Sizing - Opinions Wanted

Thank you! Yeah, I'm glad that you chimed in on this thread. Our tractors are similar enough that your input was pretty much exactly what I was hoping to hear. I like the snow blower a lot. That's some good advice, I'll pull the chain cover off and check the tensioner bolt now that I've used it...

Snow Blower Sizing - Opinions Wanted

I did! I had just logged on to update the thread, so I'm glad you asked. I picked up the 84" blower and 84" snow pusher Wednesday afternoon, got them attached Wednesday evening, and got to test them out last night with 3" of the wettest, heaviest snow we typically receive around here...

Snow Blower Sizing - Opinions Wanted

Holy cow! That's a lot of snow. Not sure what brand of inverted blowers you've been looking at, maybe Provonost or Erskine? I believe those are quite expensive. Just for comparison purposes, I didn't find the cost of an inverted WIFO to be that much more than it's comparable counterpart. From...

Snow Blower Sizing - Opinions Wanted

I hadn't, but that is a good suggestion! However, I should've clarified this point as well, but my intention for the snow pusher is actually just to clear around my house and outbuildings where their proximity to each other makes snow blowing impractical. Just tight, short runs where the box...
