Thanks for the suggestion. I'm thinking now that the short is where the wiring harness passes over the engine block. It's a friction point.

    Electrical Issue

I'm really hoping it's something readily accessible. I have my eyes on the wiring plug at the alternator. The insulation is solid but the wires are bent at a 90 degree angle. All the vibration could damage them inside the insulation maybe. Did you disassemble the alternator?

Thanks. I was afraid that was next. I traced the wires yesterday but didn't see anything obvious at the fuse panel or alternator. Most of the wires are bundled though. I will probably use electrical tape or zip ties to rebundle.

Joe, this old tractor has some character. It can be started in gear. I am definitely going to check the selenoid though.

Joe, thanks so much! I managed to find a free PDF online. I will look at the selenoid. It was replaced this summer. Every time I blow a fuse it is during heavy vibration, ie; moving, plowing snow, or hitting a bump too quickly. That's why I was thinking a wire or connection.

Yes. I'm afraid I have some hours with a bright light and a multi meter in my very near future.

    Electrical Issue

I'm almost positive there is a bad wire or a ground issue. While looking for it and moving the wires and harness around I got it to start again with a new fuse. I had to put in a 15 v instead of a 10a, until I get to NAPA. Makes me wonder about a voltage spike from the alternator too.

    Electrical Issue

Hi Richard, I do have the diagram. I followed the circuit but found no apparent damage. I had moved the wires around searching and when I tried a new fuse (using a 15 amp instead of a 10) it ran.?

Thanks Willy, that was my intention. Today I followed the wire from ignition to the fuse block and from fuses to alternator. I couldn't find an obvious issue but in moving the connections and harnesses around I got it to start and back to the barn for now.

    Electrical Issue

Hi, I have a John Deere 755 compact tractor. Since early fall I have had an electrical issue. The tractor will stall during use. It restarts but stalls immediately. I discovered that the 10amp fuse which corresponds to the starter, panel, ect. was blown. Replacing it 2 or 3 times has worked. Now...
