    Model Year Identification

Here's a weird one RE TYM serial numbers. I just purchased a new 4820 that my local dealer had ordered and received from TYM (not a dealer to dealer exchange). Its serial number is SFJX00001 (?!?) It has been my experience that the first part of a VIN/SN identifies the model and/or place of...

    dumb question about HST

Well, I finally picked up a new tractor - a 4820 that had just come in. That tractor should be a great replacement for the old Case/IH that I use with a 7' finish mower or 6' bush hog. 4820 was (compared to other brands) relatively inexpensive, and I was happy to find out that TYM was offering...

    Old dad

Yes, for ease of maintenance and use, it's hard to beat a golf cart. A friend of mine gave me a 1971 Melex in exchange for some work I did for him. I run three 12V lead acid batteries in it, and it works great for my needs.

Anyone have a MechMaxx 3-pt stump grinder?

This stump grinder might be a good option for gear drive tractors that don't have a sufficiently low creep gear.

    Natural gas?

I replied to your statement that sometimes the rent on tanks in your area is $0. My statement was a suggestion that it would be smart for any newbies considering accepting one of these "free" tanks to read the fine print. This suggestion was based on posts from several users on this form (not...

    Natural gas?

Thanks to the PSA by those that have been skewered on this list, one would do well to read the fine print very carefully to see if this "free" tank includes: 1. Prohibition to purchase propane from any other dealer (welcome to the captive market!) 2. Excessive charges to get out of the "free"...

    Natural gas?

This thread makes me feel like I'm in a bizarro world where nothing makes sense. 🤪 (I'm sure that this is just due to it being contrary to my own experience) Why is that? I have no idea what it costs to rent a tank, but IMO, renting *anything* should be limited to things you only need...

    Natural gas?

That stinks. I'm sure it helps that there are several propane dealers in our area, so the competition helps. I hope you can swap in your own tank one of these days. I go through a couple 30 gallon portable propane tanks per year and wanted to be able to fill my own. My 500gal tank didn't...

    Natural gas?

That is high. It seems that NG/LPG prices vary a lot from one place to the next. I had our propane topped off in July, and it was $2 per gallon. My parents house is heated by NG. We live in a neighboring state and our house (larger, with 3X the gas appliances) has LPG, and they spend more on...

    Natural gas?

We use propane for furnace, stoves and water heater. I have two tanks, but only use about 1/3 tank per year. I top off once per year, but could go quite a few years without a refill if needed. We live in a sparsely populated area, so if things break, we're the last to get fixed. As a result...

    dumb question about HST

Thanks Lou- Yeah, I don't even have a TYM tractor (yet), but was just wondering. New tractor will replace an old Case/IH. To shift that range selector, you have to fully engage clutch. stop. slow engine to idle. hold your tongue just right, and eeeeeease her into other range. And half the...

Anyone have a MechMaxx 3-pt stump grinder?

Thanks for those that have contributed to this thread. I've learned quite a bit. I'm looking at the MechMaxx TSG61: Look like a nice unit. I like that you can cut both directions.

    dumb question about HST

So I guess the follow-up question is: can you also shift ranges in geared (4-digit TYM) tractor with no clutch if shuttle and/or gear shift are in neutral? (assuming stopped, or very close)

    Aftermarket engine/trans/air filters for Branson/TYM?

When I see any mention of purchasing filters on this list, it is always about purchasing them from the dealer. I don't have a local dealer. Are aftermarket filters available for Branson/TYM? I assume that they are, but have I've never read about them on this list.

    dumb question about HST

I think you've nailed it. Both have pros/cons. What is best depends on the application. As others have posted, the best plan is to have one of each! 👍
