I have a 250 Belarus diesel that runs fine for 10 or 15 minutes than slows right down chugs along with black smoke coming from pipe and then quits. Any thoughts on this problem?

I am having a hard time trying to find timing marks on fly wheel. I have no inspection hole under clutch housing. I have taken plate off and have a V on the front of the casting. I have turned this over and over and cannot find a tdc or fire mark. I probably don't know what I am looking for...
