    Gopher mount leveling.

Well said. Declaring war on nature, even if it's just "vermin" is not one of humankind's better attributes.

    Gopher mount leveling.

Thanks all for the replies. I ended up with simply a 4 ft length of scrap 3 inch angle iron, with two outside edges pointing down, along with a wood "sled" attached behind to keep the angle from flipping over. Also added about 30 lbs of weight for better scraping force. My small electric quad...

FEL plow vs. rear blade for 1 mile of infrequent chipseal road snow removal

Thanks, I'll try that - I have used Diesel Purge on my VW Golf so maybe it will help here too. The stuff is best used full strength so you need to plumb a jug of it directly into the pump and run the engine for 15 or 20 minutes. Doesn't have glow plugs. It is a hot wire/diesel fuel ignite in...

FEL plow vs. rear blade for 1 mile of infrequent chipseal road snow removal

Yeah, I also find the heat gun in the intake is useful. Most of my problem I think is related to it fires only on one cylinder when cold. I guess I may have a bad injector but I don't have the extraction tool to check it (or the compression). It also gets colder here in AB than BC.

FEL plow vs. rear blade for 1 mile of infrequent chipseal road snow removal

Do you think now that a 6 ft blade was maybe a bit wide for that tractor size? I can handle considerable more than 6" w/o front chains although I have some pretty heavy weights on the rear wheels (I encased scrap 8" iron pipe flanges in concrete and bolted them to the inside of the wheels -...

FEL plow vs. rear blade for 1 mile of infrequent chipseal road snow removal

That is the setup I fabbed for my Yanmar 155D after getting tired of dragging around a rear blade on my gravel driveway. I found the front mount blade to be far superior, at least for my small tractor. I added an adjustable downstop to keep the blade a small set distance above the surface to...

    Gopher mount leveling.

Yeah, I thought about that and I suspect it would work well but, I ain't got one. :)

    Gopher mount leveling.

I dunno, I've been manually raking the mounds for years and the problem ebbs and flows but hasn't really gotten much worse. I've found if the dug up loam is spread around the grass grows back through it quickly so the overall area with bare ground stays fairly small. The biggest problem is the...

    Gopher mount leveling.

Thank you all for the great suggestions, both store bought and shop made. The weighted chain link fence material sounds interesting in particular - I think I'll try that first. Say what you will but poisoning wildlife, even if they are "just" gophers, doesn't work for me.

    Gopher mount leveling.

Was wondering if anyone might have some ideas on a home-built device to be towed behind a small tractor (Yanmar 15HP) for smoothing out the mounts of dirt that pocket gophers leave (I'm getting tired of rakin' the dang things). Maybe something shop built, maybe something purchased? It would...

PTO Generator inadequate for larger HP motors?

That's a cool idea. Would adding a flywheel to the smaller motor enhance the generator effect? If one where to do that, I wonder how small a gen could start a 1 1/2 HP well pump motor (which is what I have and my 3 KW generator won't, not surprisingly, start it)?

PTO Generator inadequate for larger HP motors?

I'm not sure that is what is needed here. Looked at the specs and it appears, at least to me, that the 7.5 HP, 5.5KW is for a 3-phase application (although the specs also say it is a 1-phase starter so who knows?). Quoting the spec: "This Altistart 01 can be used for a motor rated power up to...

Welder / Wiring for Small Garage

Why would the breaker take longer to trip with larger wire? I would think if anything it would trip faster as the larger wire would allow greater current under a short condition.

Welder / Wiring for Small Garage

That is incorrect. Each leg carries the full 30 A.
