Land Pride 8' 3 pt. rotary cutter

Just getting ready to replace the cutting blades on the RIGHT side of the rotary cutter and realized that the two cutter spindles move in opposite direction to each other, thus balancing the machine. So when replacing the blades on the right side, are the two bolts a standard left hand thread...

Remove 542 loader from JD 5425

Wow, good ideas. Yes it is powerful shift. I think I can lift the loader enough with the other tractor to get loader on the front supports and then move to the side and lift the other end of loader off the pins. Thanks, Craig

Remove 542 loader from JD 5425

The tractor will not start. Probably an issue with the ring gear. Plan to remove the 542 loader and then take off the starter. Can I remove the loader without tractor power? Plan to use another tractor to life loader off the ground and on to support posts. Craig

Ok, thanks for the input. I tried to start it again today and it wouldn't turn over. Battery was at 12. 6 volts. Starter tried to engage the flywheel I think not sure what that means??? Craig

    Ring gear failure

HI Guys, Nearly a year ago we had problems starting the JD 5425 while changing the starter motor we discovered some of the teeth on the ring gear were chewed up. So we have been blindly turning the fan and belt by hand in hopes of alining some good teeth with the starter motor, which has...

    JD 5425 not starting

Thanks guys but it seems to be a much bigger problem. We got the starter off ok, but then discovered that there seems to be a lot of damage to the ring gear on the flywheel. Some teeth are worn half way through. I could not believe it. So this means the engine has to be split and a new ring...

    JD 5425 not starting

When you turn the key all I get is a fast turning sound, loud hum. I replaced the starter motor and solid about a year ago when we had similar symptoms. Could the starter or solid be bad already. We do tend to start and stop it often, Probably more so than the average operation. Craig

Steering and loader work slow and jerky

Hi rScotty, I looked it over pretty well this afternoon. I didn't see any signs of leak until I discovered a hose clamp next to the pump that was not completely around the hose. Must have gotten moved by brush or something rubbing against it. So I wrestled it back into place with channel locks...

Steering and loader work slow and jerky

Thanks guys for the input. I bought the tractor second hand and then added a loader. The hours were under 1000. After destroying the drain plug at the bottom of the transmission I am thinking that the oil and filter were changed at some point. Everything looked great. I change the engine...
