Those are a possibility. I’ll look into them.

    How to fix mountain washout

It is the only way to access the wooded portion of our property, I consider it critical. I’m not the smartest man in the world, but one thing I’ve learned is it’s a fruitless endeavor trying to tell a woman what to wear…

    Backhoe dipper leakdown

Yes sir this is all correct. Based on this information, it definitely sounds like the check valve is where I need to….check. Sorry I’ll see myself out.

    Backhoe dipper leakdown

Cylinder is extending during drift, this retracts the dipper.

    How to fix mountain washout

This is essentially what I’m planning. The water bars are completed, but unfortunately I will be doing lots of hand digging while tied off, then the gabion. Will be a couple weeks before I am able to get back to it.

    Backhoe dipper leakdown

I have a Yanmar B65 backhoe attachment for my tractor. The dipper has started to quickly leak down if hydraulic pressure is not applied to keep it extended. With engine on or off, the rate is the same. It goes from fully extended to fully retracted in just over 3 minutes. Everything else seems...

    How to fix mountain washout

Lots of good ideas in here. The trail continues about 100 yards beyond this washout, and then there's a switchback and it continues up. I installed water bars on the above portion to try to prevent any more water flowing down to this one section. I agree with one comment that cutting further...

    How to fix mountain washout

I think I'd need a Chinook to sling them in. The pictures really don't do it justice, it's dangerously steep in many areas.

    How to fix mountain washout

I think if I had a much larger machine, that would be the best solution. I just went sliding down the embankment to try to better capture it. The trail is too narrow to have my tractor perpendicular, but even being too close to the edge to have an outrigger down I can't reach any native soil...

    How to fix mountain washout

The 6x6 fence posts I have in place would work well for this, I think it's the way to go.

    How to fix mountain washout

Never heard of a gabion cage. Looked it up and I'm familiar, just never knew the name. Similar to hesco barriers we used overseas. There's about a 100-150' drop-off before I'd be anywhere close to a spot where I could put one in. I like the idea, but not sure how I'd implement it with such a...

    How to fix mountain washout

The previous owner told me a guy with a small dozer was able to cut the trail in. I was also amazed because I'm not sure how he got a dozer through many of these rock sections. I've started on the water bars now, I like the bed mat idea as well.

    How to fix mountain washout

I started digging water bars. Unfortunately I think I would need a full sized excavator in order to dig a pocket like that. It's just too narrow and steep.

I have a backhoe attachment for my tractor, but it only reaches about 6 feet.

    How to fix mountain washout

I've got a trail that runs up the side of my mountain. It's badly eroded in one spot, I wanted to fill it in before it makes the trail impassable. It's washed out on the downslope side, and it's extremely steep. Not sure if I'd even be able to get up it on foot. Initially I drove 4 metal t...
