My long-standing view had been that “free trade” works in theory but not practice. Same for protectionism but its failings are obvious. Mixed economies thrive utilizing a bit of both.
Free-trade though is based on the theory of “competitive advantage”. Sacrifice the non-competitive sectors to...
“Borrowed and not repaid = stolen.“
Isn’t the money paid out by many social security plans a combination investment proceeds and a pass-through of current workers’ contributions? So where current workers pay for current retirees does that also “= stolen”? (As in “stolen” from current workers to...

I love this!!!
Here’s a decades old article I really enjoyed reading:

Depends on where you live.
I still have a couple hundred square feet of hard pack snow in my back yard here in the city. Just came in from shoveling the latest spring snowfall off of it. It’s basically ice due to the spring freeze-thaw cycle. However the rest of the yard is now soft wet lawn...
We just use ours for trail maintenance. Only 3-4’
Not a 12-14’ PTO unit.
Toro has or had a self powered walk behind one too.

Actually I think Toro now has a walk behind bush mower.
The XC trail groomers seem to focus on a path solely for the two skis. No?
Correction (I’m back)
I guess I’m just making assumptions based on my experience with our trails after only snowmobiles have gone over them and picture of groomers on the internet. However I do see wide flat groomers...
I’d like to get up to date on manufacturers / models of sickle bar mowers in case a great deal comes up in the future.
Right now we have an old 1970s Jari Monarch mower which we still hope to use for years. It’s been a great tool. Rarely have seen a used one for sale in my part of the world so...
That would be great (at half the width for us) and just few passes on the same trail would eliminate the ridges and really pack down the trail.
I’ve seen cross country ski groomers but they’re for a very different end user than say old and elderly couples looking to get some walking exercise...
I may try finding a source for braided flex exhaust pipe and figuring out a way to direct or bend it downwards and outwards.
Sorry folks.
I started this thread not knowing that i could have just added to this 2007 thread that I just found.
I like finding everything I need in one place...
Anyone here grown tired of breathing in the exhaust fumes from their tractors and/or snowblowers?
Our little old tractor blows the diesel fumes right out in front so they often come right back into my face. I can’t imagine that’s been great for my lungs.
Also my old snowblower blows out to the...
I’d guess that a roller of some kind might do the best job of packing the snow hard enough that it doesnt just form a crust that collapses under weight of someone.
New member here.
At our cabin we have walking trails which get packed by snowmobilers and eventually pack hard enough to walk on but I’ve found that after fresh snows walking can be very difficult. Additionally, I’d like to make walking easier for some of our full-time retired neighbours who...
