    The day the music died.

Didn't go in for some of the rock back in the 60s, but did hit a couple Beach Boys concerts... Loud but good. Was more into folk and folk rock and we're losing those stars now too. Only Paul remains of Peter, Paul and Mary. Pete Seeger and almost all the guys in the Kingston Trio and...

Anybody mount Ratchet Rake to forks?

Might depend on what you intend to push with the RR. I use mine for really heavy brush removal and grading. I am pretty sure that forks would not be strong enough to withstand heavy use - and I don't know how you could easily mount them anyway.

Landscape Rake to get gravel back onto road?

I've got a mile-long gravel drive - and had it for 30 years now. I have tried all sorts of things over the years. I tried a landscape rake for five years and it did some good, but I shifted back to a rear blade followed by a box blade. I deliberately made my road a little wider than normal...

    Battery powered chainsaw

Love my Ego battery saw. I live at the end of a mile long driveway through a forest. When trees or branches fall across the road, it is wonderful to go cut it up and get it out of the way right away without having to gather stuff and work to start my big gas Stihl Farm Boss. I have cut 14...

    Tractor Hours/Year

1000 hours on my JD 3038e - bought new in 2012. Never regretted it - never been in the shop for other than routine maintenance.

Packing/sealing a gravel road after 'resurfacing' / land plane

Interesting reading. I have a full mile long gravel drive with moderate to steep grades, lots of curves and fully in a forest ... Located in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. It's a weird shaped 112 acre tract resulting from an estate settlement. And we chose a home site a mile off the highway...

    Gravel Driveway Maintenance

The mixture is key. I have a mile-long and hilly gravel drive. Put down some 1.5 & 2 inch stone - thin layer. Then an inch or two of half inch stuff, then what we call crusher run - a mixture of small gravel and dust. It has held up quite well now for over 20 years. I tend it with a box...

    Subaru Automobiles

I have a 2021 Subaru Forester Touring and am delighted with it. I had a 2015 Outback before that was totaled by a careless guy in a truck, but immediately bought the Forester. I live at the end of a curvy, hilly mile-long gravel driveway and found most other car models simply can't take the...

Best tool to cut along a fence row?

I trim along some fences and my driveway by strapping an old heavy push string trimmer to the side of my FEL, firing it up and simply driving slowly letting the trimmer do the work. It handles hitting wires, rocks and such pretty well. I wouldn't do it in my yard, but it works in the field.

    Another rant about buying used

I bought my first tractor, JD 2030 25 years ago, but from a JD mechanic I knew. He swore it was in great condition. And it was. I traded it in in 2012 because I wanted a smaller tractor my wife could drive - and went new on a JD CUT so I wouldn't have to worry about repairs for a while. And...

Mowing on slopes maximum angle before tip

I find that common sense is the best guide. I have operated a CUT 3038 for 11 years now mowing and doing other work. When I get to a hill that makes me uncomfortable, I slow way down and lower my FEL to just off the ground. I want my COG as low as possible. Sometimes, as I proceed, I just...

is john deere 3038e tough enough???

I have a 2012 3038e with almost 900 hours - much of it working in forest land and bush hogging. I have never experienced any problems with running over brush, stumps etc. with the undercarriage. Indeed, the tractor has never been in the shop for anything other than oil changes etc.

    another hiccup to going solar?

I haven't read all the pages of comments on this thread, but I haven't seen one factor in evaluating solar that I am considering. I am out in a very rural area and, at almost 80, may well need whole-house backup power for medical reasons in the next few years. A number of my relatives moved in...

Amazon Prices - Noticed they are higher in many cases.

I live in a rural area and sometimes items are not available locally. I check local first, then Amazon, then check as many other sources as possible before ordering. About half the time Amazon is cheaper - and almost always faster. Speed is an issue on equipment related things because I want...

Verizon Wireless slow on Friday evenings

I used to have Verizon but switched to Beam fixed wireless for speed and then to T-Mobile 5G Unlimited. I am in a very rural location and Verizon was never very fast here - about 20 mbps or so. And, as I recall, if I used more than a few hundred gigs it would slow. Service was unlimited - but...
