Need advice on a larger chainsaw for an older guy.

I have the Stihl 290 farmboss. It cuts real good and doesn't have any problems with a 12 inch tree, pine or hardwood. Be sure the chain is sharp and learn the finer points of sharpening. The saw you have would seem to fit the bill for your needs.

    bucket level indicator

"It’s a beginner thing, no experienced operator needs them." A lot of people have more experience than me, but I have used one many hours over many years. I find it very valuable. Not always, but at times.

Change oil before winter even though hours are low?

I try to to do repairs and service work by during the off season. When the season gets here, I don't have to use valuable time doing stuff like that.

Buying Advice Is it possible to go too big?

Your choices seembyo be real big for the needs you stated. Buying a tractor is like buying clothes. Something too big is as bad as something too small. They just don't fit right. A tractor too small may be weak and takes longer. One too big may be bulky, hard to manuever, uses more fuel...

Depends on the weight of the tractor.

    Ford 3910 starter issue

"How do you jumper around the switch?" Unplug the two prong line that goes through the shift cover. Loop a wire to both sides of the wire that is going away from the shift cover. Be careful though. That is a very important safety feature. It will crank while in gear and take off and can run...

    Clutch fluid

Some have a dipstick on top. I assume since you are asking yours does not;). Generally, there is a drain plug, a side nipple, and a fill cap. Unscrew the nipple from the side of the housing. On a lot of fords, I think it is a 1/4. If fluid runs out, it is full. If not, pour through the...

Will 10 Horsepower actually matter on the same size tractor?

Depends on a couple of things. You would notice the difference if you work your tractor hard. The number don't sound like much, but think of it in percentage terms. Ten horsepower could be a 25% increase in some cases. If you use dirt implements.....bottom plows, middle busters, harrows and...

Attaching field fence to back of t post

Property line maintenance, including fence installation and maintenance, allows for travel across the property line in most states. Odds are the other property owner could not care less as long as the fence is functional and durable. Go to the Tax Assessor's office site for the county. It...

    Prospective purchase for the mountains.

You have a lot of options. Like some people stated, you need a wide stance and weight. That is not what you get in a compact tractor. I would look at older rebuilt tractors and find something heavy and reliable and maybe an older backhoe/loader for other tasks. If you do decide to go...

75 acres of timber with house - trails, small garden, invasive control

I think that you would be better served with a larger tractor. Older or rebuilt tractors pre-electronics and emissions controls are simpler, easier to work on and generally cheaper. Just be selective and careful. With what you are wanting to use it for, I would stay away from crawlers. They...

Planter / Cultivator / Wheel alignment on Ford

Hello All. Daviid here with a question that hopefully someone can help with or give direction. I hope I am asking in the right place. I have a small farm that I have been planting small scale row crops for quite a few years. I want to go bigger and do more retail of my produce. I can not...
