How big of a slab could I do by myself?

I'd say it turned out great! Breaking it up into manageable sections is key when doing it the way you did. I had a similar thought but had easy access for full concrete trucks on a recent pour I did. Was pretty terrified of my first attempt at finishing flat work, but it turned out great with...

Just saw my first $80,000 lawnmower

I thought this was a joke, but sure enough. $85.5k, yowza https://russopower.com/products/exmark-lzs86tdym12rw0-lazer-z-diesel

What else do you do with forks besides lift pallets?

I never could get into that pallets-in-fields thread. What a bunch of nonsense posts, hahaha.

Land plane for grading lumpy land (not a driveway)

If its anything like my box blade did, the scarifiers will collect all the roots and act like a rake. It might clog up pretty quickly and require you to untangle by hand, or maybe just pull it all over to a dump spot and lift the attachment up, shake/jiggle a bit to unload the roots.

    Gooseneck for 150/1500 truck

Good call, we have all the manufacturer data available here. For my configuration of F150 (crew cab, 6.5' bed = 157"wb, 3.31 gears = not max-tow) my conventional bumper tow is 11.2k but the 5th wheel tow rating is 10.1k, interesting. But for the 3.73 gears (max tow) the rating is the same at...

Considering a 3 pt. wood chipper

I also have 10 acres of all wooded land and always wanted a chipper. But I realized some years ago that I actually never want to own one. Mainly because I simply wouldn't use it, who has time for that? Even if you don't want to manage burn piles to get rid of all your slash - you can just...

Anyone have a MechMaxx 3-pt stump grinder?

Ok, one engine stall, we'll forgive ya. But 3 strikes? yer out. Just kidding but for the sake of your nice tractor, be careful! Slip clutch pressure, small bites, correct side of the stump, etc. All of the advice above is good. More simply, if you feel the tractor bogging down from a big...

Regret not getting a backhoe for my tractor

Haha, ok sure. You gotta dig a narrow trench on flat ground, thats great. The videos I have seen are them tipping over when on any uneven terrain, and failing to lift heavy things because they simply aren't big enough. If you need a toy digger thats fine, but they simply don't excavate tree...

Regret not getting a backhoe for my tractor

Good point. Tons of people are buying these new chinese 1-ton units and will likely quickly realize that they aren't very capable or practical to maintain.

Regret not getting a backhoe for my tractor

Thats what I used to do, before I got comfortable taking the whole tree. It's still way, way more difficult without the majority of the tree mass helping lever the stump. I wonder if you guys considering this practice too dangerous have actually tried it? I find it a very controlled and...

Regret not getting a backhoe for my tractor

Yes. But taking down the whole tree using a backhoe or excavator is by far the easiest way to get the stump out! The whole weight of the tree helps lever the stump along with it. If you chainsaw the tree down first, then its at least twice as difficult to get the stump out afterwards. I...

    Another barn build

Awesome project and thanks for sharing! Would another option be to allow yourself to raise the grade of the new building by 12-18" to get the excavation done sooner? shouldn't be that awful to have a gentle ramp up into the building for your equipment storage, no?

Regret not getting a backhoe for my tractor

For my 7.5' backhoe on my 5000 pound tractor (with front loader and backhoe on), I generally limit myself to felling 12" trees and smaller. The 15-20" diameter trees I have tried to fell have taken FOREVER, with many repositions of the machine to be able to find the right roots needing cut...

Regret not getting a backhoe for my tractor

Backhoes for CUTs are definitely just a nice money grab for the manufacturers. Most people that buy them use them only a few times before they just sit forever after that. I only got one because I bought used, and it came in the package - so thankfully the original owner did all the money-pit...

    I've been had! Well,........ manipulated!

I grew up swimming in ponds and lakes of PA (poconos). Definitely need a rinse off afterwards, haha.
