When is a Chain at End of Life

I used to live by the file it down until there’s teeth broken off or looks like a triangle. Then I cut into a rock that the tree grew around and carried with. Tooth didn’t break off it straightened out and the next time it came around kicked back so hard the handle got broken off and I got 18...

    You Have a Cab?

Yeah that’ll get your attention if you don’t see it, I was hauling a tree stand on the back of a 4 wheeler and part of the ladder ripped a basketball size hornets nest in half that was beside the trail hanging in a little pine. At least the 4 wheeler is fast enough to get away.

Ford 5000 hydraulic pressure loss when hot

That’s a possibility too. My 5000 is a 1967 and there was a driveline brake on the left side. On a 1967 that’s where the plate you speak of would be.

Ford 5000 hydraulic pressure loss when hot

When it happened to mine had to clean out the relief valve, partially stuck open and when it got hot and the fluid thinned out it was open just enough that it had almost no pressure. I think this is probably a 5000 thing and I’ve often wondered how many pumps just got replaced vs checking. Not...

Ford 5000 hydraulic pressure loss when hot

By all means check the strainer and return filter while you’re in there. You need a gasket for the pump so the pump gear has correct clearance. Check the relief valve on the pump maybe stuck.

    Dog pics

It is a seat protector and they are wearing harnesses that have a tether that clips into seat belt buckles on one end and the dogs harness on the other. It’s designed to restrain the dog in a crash, but it also works to keep high energy dogs in the area you want them to stay. There are all types...

    Hydraulic fluid

My experience with the TSC fluid had not been good, possibly for different reason than one might think. I purchased a very hard whipped Ford 5000 a few years back and of course it was full of water everywhere. Even so everything worked surprisingly well except for the wet brakes. Long story...

    Drawbar towing.

I wouldn’t be against using chains as you’ve described, after it happened I’ve always attached the trailer safety chains to the drawbar bracket underneath the tractor and the breakaway switch. In the situation I had with the ball failure an awful lot of stuff would have to fail simultaneously...

    Drawbar towing.

For clarity I had a three point type mount like some have pictured. In my situation chains or not same ending, unless the chains were short enough to keep it from lifting at all. When it pushed up the ball broke when the arms slammed against the top travel of the lift arms. They stopped the...

    I’m in suspense 😎

What about hydraulic float for front mounted snow blade?

I found an old truck mounted plow that has all the hydraulic controls inside the pump. I discarded the lift cylinder and retained the power angle part. Controlled by a switch on the FEL lift lever. The whole thing attaches to a skid steer plate so all I’ll have to do is the skid steer quick...

    Drawbar towing.

My experience with 3 point moving trailer…level ground ok or back down the hill. I almost ended up dead. If it weren’t for the tail of the trailer digging in when the trailer pushed the 3 point to the top of its travel, broke the ball and started up over the tires (towards me) I wouldn’t be here...

Will cutting brass with steel cause a spark?

I had a 100lb tank, put an open fitting in the valve and vented it slowly for a week, then unscrewed the valve, filled it with water and saws all in half. But really I’ve shot a few and no booms, that blowing up tanks with rifle rounds is movie stuff. There has to be an ignition source and I...

    Tree cutting accident

Arborist hard hats aren’t made to stop stuff they are made to deflect the blow not stop it. Sometimes the hard hat will get knocked off in the process deflecting most of the energy away from your head. A 1” branch falls like a dart and will punch a hole in a roof, yes even tin. Your unprotected...
