Tractor
JD 2038R
Hello everyone! I am sitting here the day after Memorial Day 2026 waiting to pickup my first tractor (Friday or Saturday). I thought I had researched and new what I needed/wanted. I have to say, there are many rabbit holes I've gone down after I inked the deal!

I got home and started "researching" my JD 2038R. My model comes with the loader and MMM. I also purchased the pallet forks and a box blade. Anyways, since then, I've added a 3rd function PTO to the front and dual remotes to the rear. I have a hydraulic top and side link being delivered to my home.

I have since realized tractors are very similar to Jeep, you can't really ever "finish" the build!

Good to be here and learn more with this new journey of mine!

Welcome. What is your new tool going to be tasked with?

I own a smaller 2 series JD, a 2025r. You bought a nice tractor with a lot of nice options.

A word of caution on servicing it. There is a “hard to reach” grease zerk on your tractor. The driveshafts need greased every 50 hours and the front upper one is tough the first time. I believe they’ve improved the access hole to it since I bought mine. At this point I’ve greased mine about 12 times so it is doable once you figure it out.

Good luck and enjoy it!

@Torvy, Initially I bought it to put to work on my 8.3 acres which is mostly "grass". Once I realized ALL of the future potential, now I'm thinking grapple, Sickle/Hedges, and ultimately actual garden (maybe an acre).

This is going to be a great and enlightening journey and this is my backyard.

@dodge man, thank you! I hadn't really understood the necessity and frequency of greasing until yesterday when I watched yet another video regarding this issue.

When I get mine this weekend, I'll look for the access hole you mentioned and I'll post what mine looks like.

I've read that there's an issue with the front axle bolts coming loose - have you had that problem?

A 3-point rototiller is what you need if you're going to plant a garden or need to "work the ground". Get one that's a little wider than your rear tires. Perfect size.

I'd think carefully before buying a "sickle/hedges" attachment. A sickle mower is a real pain, in my opinion. (And responsible for all the 3-legged dogs that populated this country in the middle of the last century.) An attachment that puts a sickle on the FEL -- if that's what you're talking about -- is a pretty specialized attachment and could also get scary.

Just my 2 cents worth . . .
