Mowing Blades running backwards

I stand by my suggestion.

If it was a rear discharge it could potentially work but a side discharge is going to cut horrible if it’s spinning the wrong direction. The only solution that will make the deck cut like it’s supposed to is make it turn the correct way and put the correct blades on.

I bought a b7500 with a 60" belly mower last week. It's not cutting grass very well so I look under the deck and I see that the bladed are on upside-down. I ordered a new set on blades from kubota and I put the first one on and I realize it isn't going to cut because the forward edge, as the deck currently rotating, is backwards. I realize now that the blades are on upside-down because the blades are rotating backwards. What can cause this? The previous owner replaced the gearbox on the deck. Is it possible that the gearbox is the wrong one and is the problem? Thanks

This further confirms my belief that no one gets rid of a mower that's operating properly and doing a good job. Short of Divorce or Death, I'm suspicious of any used mower for sale.

First the deck for the B7500 should be 54" not 60". Then the belt will not change the direction of the blades, only the gear box. https://www.messicks.com/catalogs/kubota/rck54-24b/mower/a01300-tension-pulley

I suspect its the wrong gear box (maybe for a rear discharge deck?)

They offered both 54 and 60in decks for the B7500.

The fix:
Upside Down Gearbox: If you have recently removed, repaired, or replaced the mower deck's right-angle gearbox, it may have been reattached upside down. Flipping the gearbox 180 degrees will reverse the direction of the output shaft.

The way the Kubota gearbox is made makes this pretty much impossible, they only go on one way.

I would at least check it, or open it up if possible. From the little bit of research I just did, CW & CCW mower blades are available.

There are, I have several LH discharge decks from other manufacturers, but the RCK60-24b that should be on his tractor uses a RH discharge deck, which turns the blades CW when looking at the pulley side.

If the spindles are indeed turning CCW, changing out the blade to make it work would be a huge disappointment. The way the baffling is set it won't cut worth a darn. If you can even find a CCW blade that'll fit that deck.

I'm throwing ideas out there, but I would bet money when new the deck cut just fine.
That was until: "The previous owner replaced the gearbox on the deck."
The solution then is:
1) see if replacement gearbox can be made to run the other direction.
2) replace the gearbox with correct one
3) sell the mower deck

But first just see if the belt is installed correctly. It MIGHT be wrapped on the drive pulley the wrong direction...

All these-sized Kubotas with belly mowers (that I ever saw, and that you can find on-line) have the deck driven by a mid-PTO. The only belt is on the deck driving the blade spindles. That belt runs off the drive pully on the gear box. The gear box being driven by the shaft from the PTO of course. When I questioned the belt installation above it was because of the possibility that belt on the deck might have been incorrectly installed and was running around the drive pulley the wrong way. That would of course cause all the blades to run in reverse.
Not possible after further investigation. See post #33 below.

Those belts are multi-V wide. Ones I see are "2-V-wide" and on the flat side around 2" wide. The flat back side of the belt runs around things like a tension idler. I just went out and looked more closely at mine and I think you are right -- I do not see how a person could install it incorrectly such that the blades run backwards. Many decks have a serpentine pattern path for the belt that is hard to follow and sometimes hard to get on correctly (especially if a belt broke and you do not see where it was before removal. There is usually a diagram on the body of the mower.) The drive pulley is grooved for the "2-V-wide" and the flat side of the belt would never get wrapped around the drive pulley.

Even though I brought it up as a possibility, after more study I do not see how the belt could have been put on wrong to cause reverse rotation.

Yep - as indicated in Post # 8. "the belt will not change the direction of the blades, only the gear box"
