Just like the Scania V8 engines, holding peak torque from 1000 RPM up to 1400 RPM. Nearly 2800 ft lbs on the 770HP V8.German engine manufacturer MAN builds diesel engines for the larger AGCO/Fendt tractors.
They can make peak torque at a mere 1100 RPM. That’s really impressive and saves a lot of fuel.

Yeah that was in the 24 valve 5.9 Cummins before they went to the common rail engines. I had one of those and never had the killer dowel issue.i also never experienced the lift pump issue, but those were known problems. Best I recall, there were a lot of the dowel repair kits sold (preventative measure), but I only read a handful of 1st person accounts of having that specific failure on the Dodge CTD forums. When it did happen some the results were quite destructive. My Dodge with 5.9 Cummins will pull a stock trailer with 4 horses or steers at 80 mph on the interstate highway all day. And with only 1/3 accelerator pedal.I am not pro Ford or pro Dodge mainly because I own both. I drive the Dodge simply because it has a lot less miles on it, but in reality the Ford has a better performance feel about it as far as normal driving. The Dodge just isn't as smooth when you try to get to the next traffic light ahead of the guy next to you.
I can't compare towing capabilities yet because I haven't pulled anything behind the Dodge.
BTW, the ones I own are a 2000 7.3 Ford and a 2003 5.9 Dodge. The Dodge has never been driven over 65 mph in it's lifetime. Can't say that about the Ford...

The Cummins B engine is the only medium-duty diesel engine used in pickups, Ford and Chevy diesels are light-duty engines.I am not pro Ford or pro Dodge mainly because I own both.
