I'm replacing a bevel gear seal again and AGAIN I'm running into the problem where I need about 1/64" clearance to get that snap ring installed. I don't know what's holding it up except possibly the seal isn't completely seated. It's about 3 15'16' or 100mm. Nobody seems to make them that large at HF or auto part stores. Anyone have an idea?

All these are helpful suggestions. In the event that you find out it’s completely bottomed out, you may need to Mic it and see if the new seal may not be precise. You just never know what’s around the corner so try and not get complacent. It easy to do sir.

As this is my 3rd seal replacement on two different tractors I really need more ballast. I have my rear tires loaded but it's obviously not enough to compensate for the large logs I move. Have any of you purchased the Vevor or Temu boxes? For $133 it would save me a lot of time over building my own.

..... If a bit to big, slot it and close it up with hose clamp....
Did that when I replaced the fork seals on the Voyager I used to own as I refused to pay the ridiculous price for a one time use seal driver.

I have a 4" hole saw that has a body diameter of 3 15/16".

The teeth are faired outward slightly to make a 4" hole. I've used it upside down with a block of wood covering the teeth a couple of times to seat large seals & bearings.

I got it with a dust collector union. It was almost a perfect match but worked fine. Thanks all. Now onto the counterweight search.

I bought one off Amazon. Weighed right at 100# empty and they still shipped it for free. Crazy. I filled mine with gravel and put a couple pieces of 1" square steel down in the corner holes and then hung some old brake rotors that had been laying around forever on those. I think it's pretty well made and does a great job for the money.

Years ago I bought a HF 3/4in ratchet/socket set. The thing really sucks for any 3/4in socket stuff but works really really well for driving seals in.

The two largest sized drivers in my HF ICON seal driver set are 3.813" (96.9mm) and 4.625" (117.5mm). Perhaps slightly to small or to big? I forget what I paid for the set on a special but the current list is a pricey $135.

It must be about 600#. Just a guess. I still have more brake rotors sitting around but haven't needed to add any more weight.

I like having adjustable ballast, so that I'm not running all over with max ballast on the 3-point at all times. I bought a Deere ballast box, Vevor would probably be fine too, filled it with concrete and welded my own carrying bars to the thing for carrying suitcase weights.

A few things, if you go this route:

1. Add some provision to attach a trailering hitch. You will hate yourself later, if you need to remove the ballast every time you want to tow a small trailer or log splitter around the yard.

2. Outfit the thing to carry your chainsaw, logging chains, rakes, shovels, water bottle... whatever you need while using the tractor. My ballast box is always loaded with logging chains, rakes, shovel, cant hook, etc.

Mine was already filled with concrete for use with a smaller tractor, when I got a bigger tractor and decided to add the provision for the suitcase weights. So I got to do the fun routine of working on a box already filled with concrete:

Finished product works pretty well:

I can carry 17 suitcase weights, and since the weights I own are the 42 lb. variety, that adds an additional 714 lb. to the original 750 lb. box-o-concrete, for a total 1500 lb. of ballast for those occasions when I'm lifting near max weight on the loader.

90% of the time, I have between zero and four suitcase weights on the thing, for scooting around the yard with some ballast (750 - 900 lb.), but not max weight. I also have the rear tires filled.

Note that, depending on brand and design, you might need to re-inforce the pins to add all of these extra suitcase weights. The Deere box was already designed to carry a large box extension, near the weight of my suitcases, so the pins were already made strong enough to carry near 1200 lb. I'm a little beyond that when I install all 17 suitcases, but not frequently, and not by so much as to likely exceed their design margin. I've also amplified the effect of any weight added to the lower suitcase bar, by hanging it far off the back of the box, meaning I get more weight reduction on the front axle per pound of ballast than one would get through adding it inside the box.
