to my core I believe in a balanced budget.
you just can't spend more than you earn.
And I didn't have to learn to be a CFP to figure that out.
has nothing to do with our politics, this happens all over the world.
Too many countries have the equivalent of a gigantic credit card debt.
And then debt equals money equals power equals politics due to who you
owe the money to.
Good thinking. Over the last few years we put a lot of people on the public payroll instead of in private jobs. Some of them are being trimmed now and things are levelling up. It takes some time which now may be in short supply a bad as it got for awhile. And then, just look at Minnesota. Real can of worms.

Good Tractor Morning,
Ct, 30 to start going to 40. I guess the real cold isn’t here yet 😉
Can’t read all the posts this morning, I’m starting by cooking bacon for the kiddos and then running to the FD to cook breakfast for the guys delivering popcorn balls and candy canes.
So a short post for now

Have a great Day 🙏
Have a great day Scott! I'm sure those boys will be eagerly awaiting your return!

well I'm ready for the neighbors to descend on this little cottage.
cider is warm on the stove
I can just fit two other couples in there
have a nice christmas scene with snow up on the big screen, but
Christmas carols coming from office. That way noise/music is in background
and easier to talk.

32F and "Fair" with plenty of sun @ 12:45, that should be the high for the day. Snow has pretty much all melted.

Coffee tasting very good.

Worked some more out in the garage last night doing clean up and organizing since it was relatively warm and easy to heat.

Starting to see some evidence that the back workbench actually has a horizontal surface under all the junk ... lol ...

Woman made a couple of loaves of pumpkin bread, turned out great ... plans to make more today ... (y)

A little later I headed downstairs and got the bracing taken off the foam board.

Got a panel cut for that last 21" section on the east wall but did not get it glued and put up. Will get that done today.

After that will work on getting the area between the top plate and joists on the north wall insulated with fiberglass batts.

Once that's done I can move the pre-built stud wall into place and nail it down to the floor and joists.

Hope everyone is having a decent Sunday ... (y)

72°F and no rain
Got some mow interior mowing done yesterday. All my interior banks/slopes with the ditch flail. What a tool.
Solstice gathering a good time. A few less folks than last year, so a bit cozier and still took much awesome food. Good to catch up with folks we don’t see too often.
Another gathering today. Host neighbor is retiring after 25 years at UH College of Pharmacy. She is one of the leading experts on rat lung disease worldwide, but future of her works seems more a political football. Another guest is the birthday of another friend. Sophie decided we should get a sheet cake to celebrate.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great tractor day

Wind is blowing chimes singing

The storm that came tru last week did some major damage to our electrical grid especially in WVa and parts of Virginia

90 mph winds in WVA
Challenges, Buppies. Prayers for you both.
Any chance you can install a doggie door to a fenced area? Have to admit that was one of the best features when we built this house.

I see the powerball did not go off
1.6+ billion now
my brother is so lusting after a new Corvette ZR1 and
his wife has said absolutely no.
But he knows if he won the lottery, he could have a fleet of them...
and he would not get whined at.
Actually my SIL would want 99 percent to go to charity
so he might get one.
my guess is as long as he lusts only for fast cars,
my brother gets a lot of slack from his wife.
He worked really hard for 40+ years, time for him to play.

today I wonder if the expectation is still to work very hard for 40 years.
it seems today's reality is longer, not shorter.
more like 45 years
or more

Rising Projections: Some analyses suggest that due to high student loan debt and rising housing costs,
the necessary retirement age for new graduates may actually be as high as 75,
which would result in a 52-year career.

I don't think that would fly in parts of Europe.
seems some countries there would rather have their economies truly tank then
work a few years longer. Lot of protests and strikes.

Sadly, Drew, I think debt preference is too popular here in this country. Could it be losing the influence of the depression generation? I also think there is a factor that it’s possible to just get debt forgiveness with minimal impact. Add to that the growing attitude that the government will be there to take care of the future.

Plowing all done. I had a 12" high windrow in front of this place, but all my customers got plowed out properly. Here I just did the windrow and gave the rest of it a lick and a promise.
I don't want to be like the guy in Montreal that went around selling his plowing service, took the money and ran. He is now on the wrong end of a class action lawsuit. Sucks to be him.

Relatively nice day here, for late December, I think we peaked above 40F after lunch. Got batteries back onto the trailer today, in their new location aft of the axles to reduce tongue weight, among other chores.

Waiting on some more wiring terminals, so temporarily rigged up solar maintainer to see us thru the few cold nights while we wait for completion:

Drew, cider usually isn't good until it sits at least a couple weeks to age

A lot of young, have no idea how finances work. Loans, interest, etc Schools have failed, they were too busy trying to get people to change their genders, when they needed to know how loans work, how interest works, etc... They can't even write. Pokemon didn't teach it either. Even my own are not as aware as they should be.
Our education system needs to get back to the basics.

Looks a lot like some spots on the San Antonio River Walk at this time of year. Beautiful.
I haven't been to the River Walk since the late 1980s. Remember eating at one of the mexican places along there, and getting sick afterwards...lol And how disappointing the Alamo was to see in the city.

Yes, it is totally surrounded by "city". It is not the fort in the John Wayne movie. There is a Ripley's "Believe it or Not" across the street.

Phil Collins of Genesis had a big collection of artifacts that he donated back to the museum.

If anyone wants some great Texas history reading, google the Council House Fight, then followed by the Great Raid of 1840.

21F and clear @ 00:30, heading down to around 19F for the overnight low.

Put out food for feral kitty first thing. Hi

Got 21” wide foam board glued up, placed, and braced on last section of east wall.

Pulled down the fiberglass insulation on top of the sill plate on the north wall and got that area all vacuumed.

Cut a bunch of unfaced R-11 insulation and added 3 layers of on top of the sill plate on north wall (8’ section behind new stud wall)

Also got 3 sections on top of sill plate between joists done as well.

After adding what I took down (R-19) back in it will be R-52.

Without any insulation up there could really feel the cold air intrusion.

Got 8’ section of stud wall moved into final position and plumbed up.

That required a trip up to the shop for the 12 lb. sledge …

Once that was wedged in place, got the wall nailed down to the concrete and into the floor joists.

Got holes drilled in the studs for the Romex.

Mounted 3 boxes for outlets.

Ran 1 section of 12-2 between a pair of boxes.

Foamed the northeast corner with Great Stuff on the foam board to seal it up, also 1 joint between 2 panels on the east wall.

Probably work on getting more fiberglass insulation cut before I hit the rack.

Hope everyone had a decent day …
