Why are batteries suddenly so expensive?

Last I knew,East Penn batteries still had the little round dots that were removed to indicate the date sold/installed.
Don't think other ones have those anymore?

As I stated in my original post, this is my BUSINESS. We SELL stuff to people in various states. Some states apparently feel that if WE are making money off their residents, THEY are entitled to a piece of the profits.

By the way I never said it was logical, or even constitutional(?), but it is the way it is. At least we get to claim the expense as a deduction, which softens the blow a bit.

But how did they charge INCOME TAX on an item? I can understand VAT, sales tax, tariff, but how much INCOME does the item make?

Or were they charging your business based on how much income you made?

I noticed this with an older car I had. Today I'm trying to replace a 1979 VW Beetle battery and I'm seeing $200!
Are they filling batteries with gold now?

Yes. I never said anything about items. The income tax is based on the sales (dollars) we made in NH relative to our total profit.

Theoretically, they COULD base it off the profit of each item sold.

I’ve never been afraid to do a little modification, to get a more common and less expensive battery to fit.
The $69 battery I fit to my tractor last year, also fit the wife’s car after removing the insulated box. The Oem battery was stupid small and expensive. Both batteries are still running strong. Price has jumped from $69 to $79. Outrageous

You’d need heaters for them to be any good in winters up where I live. More expense
