The simple act of doing a delete on a diesel vehicle does NOT mean rolling coal. It DOES mean lower overall cost of ownership since several pieces of failure-prone equipment are no longer attached to the vehicle.
Yes, I agree. A delete does not equal rolling coal. And while I am sure said truck is more polluting, no one would probably even notice. You do you!

I am glad you agree rolling coal is silly and irresponsible, finally we agree on something.

If i had a truck set up to roll coal, I'd want a way of igniting the smoke as it left the etack. How cool would that be?
Not very cool (hot, actually), but probably cleaner cheep thrills.

All of the dpf, egr's and def system do is add complexity and errors to a basic engine. As far as ag engines go the various Tiers just increased the cost and decreased the reliably and increased the fuel usage.
The best running engines I have run were the late tier 3 common rail engines. Excellent fuel economy, great starting fantastic torque rise as needed.

As far as pickups with diesels the mandated epa crap killed the mileage of those engines. Many of those engines had/have a loss of as much as 20% and some even more.

I'm a long time irregular route long distance over the road company truck driver (I usually drive 155-160K miles a YEAR!) ... My company has a tad over 450 0-4 year old Kenworth's 75-80% of all shop repairs, other than regular preventative maintenance, or tires, are emissions related.

My little 2021 Massey Ferguson GC 1725 MB, which is only 25 HP, but meets the tier 4 standards for that size engine, will send out a small puff of white smoke on start-up ... Working hard, probably "too hard"! Like really pushing the bucket to the point where it will almost stall, it will send out a puff of black smoke before I back off the go pedal ...

Some people who have altered their early problematic emissions blow some black smoke (roll coal) just by heavy accellerating not for a show or being a nuisance , just unburnt fuel. If there is such a thing as a switch to make their vehicle blow large amounts of black smoke ( unburnt fuel) into the environment , not just heavy accellerating then I would agree that, that is BS as well.
The magic switch is called a programmer

The exhaust doesn’t burn. You need unburnt (raw) fuel in the exhaust. Adding a propane injector, regulator and igniter does the trick. For extra fun, you can add a diesel injector after the propane.

The same guys who go for rolling coal also want us to hear their Harleys and pickups as they drive past.

I think the big reason for a lot of the electronics issues is greed and corporate bad behavior. You make more money by turning everything into a cellphone that's overpriced and unfixable. Companies work hard to create the expectation that it's normal to throw their product away every two years due to a "software glitch" and buy a new overpriced replacement. It's called capitalism. In grandpa's day those companies selling crap made to fail didn't go far because you didn't buy from them ever again. There was no TikTok or Fakebook constantly telling you that you need to buy more crap you don't want or need.

Some industries are exempt from pollution control standards. Railroad locomotives and cargo ships are a couple examples. Cargo ships use bunker oil as fuel. Bunker is cheaper but pretty nasty. I wonder about the cruise ships like Carnival?

All the more reason to stop importing so much from overseas and start making things here in the USA again. We could reduce the amount of inbound bunker fuel burning cargo ships.
Also reduce the amount of jets hauling inbound cargo, which spew a lot of pollution, too.
