As stated, I am new here, and have never owned a tractor before, but have run skidsteers and other construction equipment most of my life. I'm stoked about getting this tractor for our property.

I just bought the new LS mentioned above which is coming in about a week or so. We also want to get a heavy duty Rhino TW26 6' brush hog for it. The tractor puts out 34.8 HP at the PTO and the cutter requires 35 HP and up.

Will this still work well together being .2 HP short? Wondering what your experience is, and/or thoughts are.

Thanks!

You probably won't have any problems using it at all. Maybe if the grass gets really tall.... then just slow down your travel speed.

I run a 6' finish mower on my 25 hp CUT, 17.8 PTO hp. Granted, if it's wet or too tall grass, then I have to slow down quite a bit. Otherwise, no problem.

Depending on how high and thick what you’re cutting is, generally start in low range and high rpms. If it seems line it’s cutting really easy, you can put it in mid range to speed up the progress.

If you’re moving in and out if areas if thick and thin grass, simply adjust the abive as necessary.

Keep an eye on the engine temperature. With higher grass, the chaff gets into the radiator screen and radiator fins itself, so after a few hours, it can be easy to have a hot engine.

I appreciate both of your posts and helpful insights. We wanted to ask a second party other than our dealer, and it looks like everyone is offering similar advice.

Thanks again!

Wondering if you purchased the Rhino TW26 6' brush hog? I'm picking up a 242HC later next week. Haven't purchased a bush hog but looking for a 6' of some type. Thanks

I have 2 40hp tractors, both with 6' brush mowers. As others have said, you will have to slow down in the taller/thicker stuff. Personally, I set the RPM of the tractor according to the 540 RPM icon/indicator plus about 50-75 rpm with the pto engaged, then match my travel speed to maintain the indicated rpm =< 50-75rpm

We went with the LS 6' heavy duty rotary cutter. We should be getting the equipment delivered soon.

I guess your dealer helped you pick that one out?
Sort of. With the zero % financing it made sense and was able to get a 12K 22' trailer as well under that zero %.

Enjoy your new equipment. I ran my 6' cutter for years on my 40 HP TC40DA, which is 33 HP PTO. Also, if no pictures it is just an internet rumor.

You can run the 6' cutter easily through light to medium duty work. If you really need to do much of the rough stuff work that a heavy duty bushog can do youre going to need a bigger tractor that can deliver near 10HP per foot mower width.

TractorGunn, I know its over a year later but I'm having the same conversation with myself and my tractor. I'm looking at rotary cutters for the new property. I like the RhinoAg models and I want a 6' width with a 2" cutting capacity. Which, like you drops me off at the TW26 model. Buuut, they want 35hp min. And I don't want to have to run the tractor maxed out to run a cutter. But I do need a cutter that'll withstand running through oak limb dead fall under some tall grass and brush. Anyway, the hunt continues. How is your LS rotary cutter doing? I'm sure my dealer has one but I was looking for outside options.

I've had zero issues with it, cuts like a charm. I just put the throttle on the indicator and it has more than enough power.

Question since you have the same tractor. Have you found any oil filters cross references that work other than having to use the LS brand?

I made a thread here. I'd like to be able to find something off the shelf that works and is good quality rather than paying LS $30.00 for one filter.

That's good to know. I did a little more homework and discovered when I looked at my dealer site for an LS rotary cutter, they carried the Bush Hog brand. So, I looked up their lineup and the BH216 would fit the specs...not so much the price, but the specs. I'll keep thinking on it.

I have not found an oil filter yet but I'm coming up on the 50hr mark so I'll get on it after the move. I see what you mean about a $30 filter. A quick search and I cant find anything on the specs but possibly found the entrance to the rabbit hole. The 4052051 may be equivalent to the Yanmar D80X80L. It is anywhere from $14-17. If I can find the specs, I may look up a Fleetguard part. But I'll get to that research after this move. I packed my LS service manual already so I can't look at it for the engine info. I have a few minutes, I might go outside with the flashlight. If I get the engine info I can poke around from that angle too. I'll let you know what I find.

Edit: Ok my engine plate says: 4TNV88C-MLST

AI Overview

The Yanmar 4TNV88C-mlst oil filter cross-references include the genuine Yanmar part numbers 129150-35170 and 119005-35151. Other cross-reference options include the HIFI filter SO 6105 and various aftermarket filters that list compatibility with the 4TNV88 engine.

Genuine Yanmar part numbers

  • 129150-35170: This is a frequently cited OEM part number for the 4TNV88 engine.
  • 119005-35151: Another official Yanmar part number that is compatible with the 4TNV88 engine.
Aftermarket and other brand cross-references
  • HIFI SO 6105:
This is a compatible aftermarket option listed for the 4TNV88 engine, according to HIFI FILTER's catalog.
  • Other aftermarket filters:
You may also find filters listed with part numbers such as 119005-35100, 119820-35150, or 129907-55801, which are often marketed as replacements for the Yanmar 4TNV88, notes Amazon and eBay.

And a cross reference for HIFI filter SO 6105 brings up THIS page. What I'm going to do now is pull up specs on a well know cross reference result, like the Fleetguard or Donaldson equivalents. I'd really like to see thread size and filter specs:
Boy I just charged down that rabbit hole in a hurry lol I'll likely order one of Fleetguards, I trust them on my trucks so I'm comfortable trying on my tractor. I use the Donaldson's on my truck's fuel filters and trust them as an option too.

Thanks for all the info.

Allegedly the Wix 51344 is a fit. I am trying to find out if any on here has found a filter that they know fits and works, but not getting any responses in my thread.

Let me know if you find out anything else. I think I'll go with the Wix and see if it works. They seem to make reputable filters.

The Yanmar 129150-35170 is huge according to its specs: Google Search

It says it is 7.44" long.

I measured the filter on the tractor, it is 3"-3.25" long. The Wix 51344 is the same length.

Yeah I noticed one of the Donaldsons it listed up there was a long filter too that probably wouldn't fit in the space. I guess the cross reference matches on the thread size than anything else. The Wix you picked up has the same thread size and pitch, you should be good. I've grabbed Wix filter here and there for the other small engines in the yard, they'll do fine.

What I've started doing for all my machines is buying several filters at a time and stocking them. I do that with the trucks and it keeps me from having to order a single item or run to the town last minute.

And for anyone referencing this thread for info, probably a good idea to stick to the shorter filters like the ones referenced from the Hifi SO 6105 line vs the Yanmar 129150-35170 so it fits the physical space.
