Not sure I'm in the right Forum for this, but I'm just looking for suggestions for a spray on / rinse off degreaser. Getting towards the end of mowing season here in Northern New England and looking ahead to preping the mower deck for winter storage. I noticed the other day that I've got grease thrown from the pulleys all over the top of the deck. Then the dust cakes on to the grease, and you got a messy deck. I can clean it with Simple Green in a 50/50 water mix, and a spray bottle with a lot of paper towels. Getting older and lazier, I was hoping someone might have the low down on a spray on / rinse off cleaner for such purpose (s).

I use green cleaner, or purple cleaner with a 2 or three inch cheap brush. Rinse with garden hose or pressure washer. I have no magic steam gennie for hot water washing. I will use mineral sprits for some gunk cleaning.

Get some B52. The best degreaser I've ever used. It worked on my 92 Komatsu track hoe.

I would not want to use water on something, I'm putting away for the winter.

Moisture contributes to oxidation.

I would prefer to use an oil based de-greaser, or kerosene to remove grease, and oil.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I would thoroughly dry it out after cleaning for storage.

My friend gave me a used and abused Gator. Decades of oil ans dirt in the engine bay. I used Gunk foaming engine cleaner. Sprayed it on, waited 5 minutes and hosed it off. This stuff was magic!

I use GUNK concentrate. Cut 10:1 with kerosene. The stuff really works.
It makes soap out of grease and oil, then hoses off. DO NOT APPLY TO WET SURFACES. It doesn't work that way.

My vote is for Gunk degreaser for heavily soiled grease, and Oil Eater for routine degreasing / cleaning.

Last time I used Gunk the instructions said it was important to warm up the engine first so it was working on a warm surface. That did seem to matter. Is that still the case? I haven't used it in a while.

I don't do that, mostly because my degreasing is done on a frequent basis before it gets too bad. I'm sure it works better on a warmed (never hot!) engine.

If you are doing smaller areas, oven cleaner also works.
You just have to be careful what you spray it on. I've known people to use it on chainsaws and it corroded the block

It has been my experience after decades of washing cars, house siding, motors, and other objects that a water rinse, even from a 1500 psi pressure washer, leaves a residue after the water dries, but physical disturbance by a brush or even a rag while the surface is wet and before the final rinse removes that residue. I would describe the effort as brushing rather than scrubbing although scrubbing may be necessary. If the OP has globs of dust caked grease, a quick scraping with a putty knife may be more effective and less total effort than multiple washings.

That!
So what we really need are pictures.
So OP - show us some dirty pictures!

For equipment I like to use old clean diesel. For inside I've been using Zep orange degreaser, mainly because I got a 5 gallon pail for half price years ago.

I was very impressed with purple power recently.
