Had a great hunt this morning. It's just about the same as you see on Swamp People. In fact, our guide was on Swamp People for a couple of seasons.

So what do you do with them? Meat? Leather/pelt/whatever you call it? I would think they start to go bad pretty quick in LA heat..

They are sold to a processor. The processor will sell the meat and the heads. The skins will be sent to a tannery for tanning and will be made into wallets, purses, boots, etc. I will get one of the heads for display and some if the meat. My daughter wants to make alligator tacos with some of the meat.

The biggest one we got today was 9'2" long. The one you see hanging was taken yesterday afternoon and is 10'6".

It was a really easy hunt. We drove about 300 yards from the camp, launched the boat and rode the canals to the lines he had set out.

Once you get to the lines, one person will pull the line until the head is exposed and someone else will shoot it in the head behind the eyes. One good shot at close range will finish the alligator.

Then, load it into the boat, re-set the line, and drive to the next one.

If you ever watch the show Swamp People on History Channel, it's pretty much the same in real life. Some will put up a good fight and pull the boat around, and splash water everywhere, and some will just come to the surface for the shot.

I wonder which state has the most people killed by bears? It isn't Arkansas because their latest bear attack was the first one this century.

After no bear attacks in over 25 years, the 2nd person is killed in Arkansas by a bear within a couple of weeks.

I've camped out in this area many times in the last 50+ years and never seen a bear in the area but I will be a little more observant next time.
