This spray paint just appeared on the road in front of my gravel driveway.

I share this driveway with several other neighbors. I'm wondering if someone is planning an excavation of some sort soon and they had to get the markings.

There is a standard phone/power/cable pole about 10 feet from this spot but other than that no traffic signals.

It does seem to be the highest point in the area topography, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Check your deed. Mine doesn't allow ANY unauthorized utility encroachments. I have authorized ONE for a $5000 'fee' for a County EMS network line. That's it.

I’d say they want a utility locate in all directions [emoji6][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]] feet. I’m not sure what toc means? When I was doing construction staking it meant top of curb.

Top of curb was what I remember but who knows these days.

A new cell 5G phone tower is going in at the center of the mark. Guy wires will be placed 50' in each of the directions. T.O.C. is Tower On Center.

These towers generate microwave energy beams. You will feel warmer the closer you get to the tower.

Hello fellow TN resident.
TOC is shorthand for TN One Call. The local TN utility supplier is requesting the contracted utility locator ( usually USIC ) to locate all public utilities within 50 feet of the "X" mark in advance of digging or boring at or near the X.

USIC will not locate/mark private utilities.

Has Wilie Nelson been through there? On the road again means somebody has been singing one of his songs or somebody is going to screw up and put a tower right in the middle of the road and a road closure with orange cones, barrels and signs will soon follow with a detour planned while the road is relocated!
I like MossRoad's idea, with a close second for Mikester!

Here in my part of East Texas, they started running Fiber Optic down the roads. This included drilling under the road to run the line from one side to the other. Since there isn't anything else in the area, there is a chance that this might be it. In my case, we were able to connect to the fiber optic for unbelievably fast internet that costs us $75 a month.

Thanks for all of the replies!

I just found out a new water line is going to be dug.

I think the markings mean that work will happen 50' in all directions and 200' down the road.

Not sure but now I think T.O.C means Top Of Curb, even though there is no curb.

A number of years ago when I was installing my ground mount solar, I had to cross the feed from my ground mount transformer to my meter base.

I knew exactly where the line was run when I built the house, but for legal reasons I had it marked.

Most of the line was in dirt areas, but at one point it crossed the concrete drive.

The mark out guy/gal wrote this paragraph in the dirt next to the line explaining how he/she used chalk paint and the markings on the concrete would was off with water.

Unfortunately the paragraph and concrete marks were made with regular marking paint.

Brain fade!

Fortunately the marks were fresh and acetone and pressure washer eliminated them.

There running fiber to my house this month. I have starlink which i like, but there offering free fiber to house including wifi modem with 400/400 speeds for $79 per month. Since im paying $120 now for 150/20 speeds, im going for it. Im going to see about letting my starlink stay for backup. I hear starlink has a $10/month dormant plan with minimal bandwidth use. Looking into it

Nope My fellow Tennesean,
TOC is short for TN One Call.
Website: Home
TOCs portal: https://gcv3.tn811.com/geocall/portal
TOC is a state wide database and ticket request center supporting Call Before You Dig to prevent damage to public utilities

USIC is the current state contracted utility locator

ps. I've used TOC ( call 811 ) numerous times for property in Knoxville to better understand where the public utilities were buried before landscaping the property and installing a 3 bay garage.

The TN One Call standard for marking where you ( homeowner/ contractor ) want the utility locator to mark the public utilities is to either spray an outline around the area or to mark a point and relative distances and then add "TOC" with everything in white paint so USIC knows where their job area is without anybody having to be on site.

Wow... Y2K finally reached east Texas! I designed some of the first triple wavelength optical transmitters Verizon used in their residential optical networks, ca.2002.

Looks like you need to update your location!
Not really. I'm a country boy so acreage in Faiview NC and where most of the toys are kept and home in Knoxville because TN has no income and death taxes. Best of both worlds.
