How long should things last?

I like to cook up hamburg, chicken, or pork a couple of pounds at a time and freeze it for quick meals later.
I tried doing that with bacon but it doesn't work. A pound of cooked bacon in the freezer is like a bowl of M&Ms on the counter.

Catch me hungry and I can make 10-12 strips of bacon go away fast.
Too bad it’s like radioactive bad for us.

I’m a big fan of lifetime warranties which were a thing from auto batteries, mufflers, tools, etc.

I’ve also done well with them and keep my receipts.

My gripe is too often 99% of something broken is good but the 1% part needed no longer exists.

In the 1980’s I was still buying Model A Ford parts from my Ford Dealer… well over 50 years since it was made… new carburetor, gaskets, tune up parts.

I have a brake machine built in the 1930’s and needed a part… I called the manufacturer that had acquired the company in the 1970’s and asked to speak to the design engineer with the longest tenure…

He said let me look around the warehouse and get back to you… he said I have what you need plus more… I’ve been here 50 years and retiring next week… how’s $75 sound for all of it…

I think the shift is not how long should something last to we don’t want it too last too long… as it cuts into company profit according to the accountants…

I have completely different expectations for objects that WEATHER than for those that break of wear.

The sun is immutable! That's on me if I want rubber parts to last.

If anything but a kids toy, I want to rebuild,or repair "real" things.

Consumer electronics become obsolete about the same time that they fail. Just an expense...no different than groceries.

My Apple//e has never crashed…

I still have the original box with packing foam and 2 floppy drives etc…

A collector wanted to buy for a good price for a display and the original box and literature I think was valued more than the computer…

I decided to keep it for my museum… :)
