Should have been cut down years ago, Why did you wait so long ?
This comment adds no value to the topic, why did you post it?

Seriously, what’s your point…to say you would have done better or to point out someone’s “error” in their ways according to you? What does that add to the discussion?

Exactly. Why I paid my tree guy 130 to drop my 5th one that was a leaner toward power wire in reach and needed to go 180 other way.

I dropped the other 4 but that 5th one worried me.

He dropped, all he needed to do with bull rope tension to another tree pulling.

I cut it all up and cleaned up the mess across the lane. Pretty dang cheap for his skill and experience IMHO

I don't care if it's dropping branches the diameter of my thigh.

I don't have the tools and I don't have the experience.

And I don't have the money to hire anyone to do it, nor do I want heavy trucks in the yard.

I guess I just have to avoid the area for the next year or six until enough of it drops off to no longer be a threat.

No risk to house or shed, so no issue there. Probably take out a couple of other smaller trees, but I don't care about them either.

I have dropped plenty of big trees in my life but if this tree was mine, I would let it be. Being that it is partly hollow, dead, and odd shape, let time and gravity do its work.

Here in Texas we pull it down with a tractor or push it over with a bulldozer. Everything goes in a pile and gets set on fire. Normal procedure here.

I've got a massive oak tree in my front yard that's dead and needs to come down. I am gonna have to climb it and take it down from the top down. Worst of all is it's right next to large power lines. Not looking forward to it...
Be careful. I sustained a life-changing injury while cutting a tree from top to bottom. I have cut hundreds of trees and thought nothing of climbing a tree and removing limbs from it. I had a limb kickback and it took me out of the tree; I broke my back and fractured 9 ribs. Reflecting on my accident, I should have tied a rope high on the tree and then used my tractor to pull the tree in the direction I wanted it to fall. I should have then cut the tree down from the base.

Makes nice homes and roosts for birds and animals.

I sell several cords a year of hickory and cherry to my local bbq joints.
Whether or not they want hickory might depend on where he lives. I don't know of anyone that uses hickory around here.

The big known Ribber steak house uses Hickory for their smokers. They have storage boxes of it for everyday setting waiting.

Think dad uses hickory and oak for his uses.

I use Apple myself for my little smoker. Being I have a unlimited supply after a tornado.
This is how a thread on what to do to remove a tree turns into a bbq discussion.

Hickory is one of the top woods for smoking BBQ. You can even go to Walmart and buy it in bags along with Apple, cherry, and mesquite.
