I more often see them tripled or quadrupled up, all going forward, around here. I think they call this "decked" towing.

The connecting deck is actually a trailer that they tow home with the pickup.

When my son was very small, he would get really excited to see "a truck on a truck on a truck on a truck."

That is how our new fleet trucks were delivered back in the 70's
