Good Morning to All who Celebrate! 65° going to a high of 81° Storm clouds to roll in this afternoon and then rain for the rest of the week.
This weekend has been...Eventful.
Saturday morning, up early. Mom collars me halfway through a bowl of cereal. "Let's go rent that stump grinder and get it done." Dad had been chasing turkeys since Thursday. It being mother's day weekend and the fact that she feeds me, I wasn't in a strong position to say no. Get dressed, head outside, put key in truck...click.
No biggie, Mom's Audi is here, we can jump it. We quickly find, due to ze Germans infinite mechanical wisdom, that the batteries (two 12v in series) have been moved to the trunk of the car. Thanks to the unclear wording of the manual, there is a jump point somewhere under the hood, but where remains a mystery.
While my mother was doing her best to decipher the enigma manual, I had pulled the Kubota out and found that the battery was 12v. So:

Gave the tractor some RPMs and Houston we have Ignition! By this time, it's roughly 10:30. Rental place closes at 2, remember that because it will be important later. So now we have a side quest: replace my 12 year old battery.
So run to the AutoZone, Shell out 240 bucks for a battery. As I had never replaced a battery before, get the battery replaced by the most...rotund woman I had ever seen. Now that I know it's just three nuts and a rachet extender, I'll be able to do it next time. By the time that hoopla ends, it's 1pm on the nose. Of course, I then proceed to get behind the oldest and slowest woman ever. I don't think she broke 25mph the entire time I was behind her. Did I mention the college nearby was graduating that same weekend too? Because it was.
We make the rental place at 1:45pm. There's one final hurdle to cross: The tie-down straps I had purchased aren't threaded in.
For such a circus getting the thing here, running it was a snap. Demolished the stump down far below grade, patched up the last few stumps that had a few roots left and then that was that. Spent the rest of the weekend shuttling tanbark around with the tractor, Mount Tanbark is certainly smaller now. Dad decided to spare the dead tree for more of a privacy screen, so be it.
Here's hoping this week is slower than my weekend. But if this morning is any indicator, it won't be. Time will tell.
Goals for this week: Make sure nothing needs mowed before the storm, schedule truck for inspection, Survive work week.
Y'all stay safe out there and Be well!
Prayers for those ailing and recovering!
