I'm content and try to live in my means. Yet inflation and higher wages have now cut into the necessities.

The tractor tarp shed was to be a 3 year ordeal. covid hit, supply chain busted, inflation took off and wages in food and retail jumped to 15/hr min, yet places are paying $20 to $24 to retain people.

So my tarp shed is rags now and I want to go to riches with a 20FT sea shipping container.

5 years ago it looked great and worked very well. The deep freezes to -22F, harsh winds to 90mph, and blistering 106F summers have taken it's toll.

Some here on TBN have done this, I wold love to.

As I get older, the only other need to have a 3-point rotary tiller. The walk-behind is jarring after a few hours of use. Otherwise, I'm content. I learned early in life, having too much requires too much attention for up-keep, repairs and overhaul. Keeping things simple allows your time to be spent wisely.

A more realistic thing for me vs a new truck is for my neighbors to respect property lines. In MI, that is asking alot. Found this yesterday.

Old rail road bed, we own 50 ft on each side of center of bed. Guy up front thinks he owns it and he cleared a section to put up a power pole to the back of his actual property.

Found it yesterday and will see what a lawyer says.

10 years plus of crap like this. Getting old

Good fences make good neighbors

Beyond fences now. He cut down trees with the "no tresspassing " signs on them.

For a guy to buy a house and property for 1.2m , I figured he could read, and do his research.

Guess not

The Mini-Ex with a mulcher head is better. set up, IMO.

I think it depends on what you're doing - the local utilities (at least the electric.. possibly the phone .. although it's 99% contracted work in either case.. not sure on the details as I've only watched from the road) have a large skid steer like unit that the clear under the power lines with. It's mostly flat country and holy cow does that thing cover a lot of territory in a hurry. It's easily taking and 8' wide swath all at once. For what your business looks like with a lot of varied terrain I wouldn't argue with your assessment.

Frankly both of them kinda scare the poop out of me, the amount of thrown sticks and trash seems pretty high, I'd be checking the guards and armor on the unit reeeeeeaaalllly carefully. I was looking at a mini ex ditch and bank unit last year but chickened out (the amount of use I'd have gotten would have been hard to justify as well.. but.. it also dramatically increased the amount of cab guards and cost on the mini as well..).

Something I want but can’t afford?

It’s been said that the perfect wife is Mary Poppins with the kids, Julia Child in the kitchen, Martha Stewart with the housekeeping, and Raquel Welch in the bedroom. I’ve come to the conclusion those are four separate women, but I can’t afford four wives.

I am still amazed at seeing what a forestry mulcher can do on a compact track loader, and it's a wonder they don't tear themselves to pieces in the process. That being said, I don't think I could justify the $150,000 or so starting investment cost.

Before the pandemic decent condition small used CTLs with mulchers were in the $60k range. I thought about buying one, using it on my land and then selling it. If nothing too expensive needed fixing then it wouldn't cost too much. But it's a gamble.

Now they're a lot more expensive.

They sure can, but the problem with a skiddy is that they are claustrophobic for me and less vesatile in that I don’t get the boulder & stump digging benefit. Also, my CX-15 can do a great job clearing wide swaths of thick brush.

If I combined my CX-15 with a mini-ex/mulcher, I’d have an unbeatable one-two punch for clearing land.

This is what I want

It’s no big deal. I’ve had almost nothing happen in terms of debris throw. Now on the mini-ex/mulcher, I’m not sure how bad they throw, probably a good idea to fab a protective cage/guard in front of the glass door or buy a thick plexiglass door (if available)
