lol... your friend and I would probably get along well. I don't drive nearly as fast as I did at 17, but I do still get the same thrill from acceleration and high-horsepower vehicles. I also don't care about the cost of fuel, it is not a cost high enough to even register, driving under 10k miles per year.

My point was that you're comparing fuel cost of EV's to ICE's that get 35 mpg, and I don't think many of the EV owners on this thread are driving vehicles anywhere near as wimpy or boring as a 35 mpg ICE. Maybe at least make the fuel cost comparison to a typical 18-20 mpg ICE sport sedan?

You miss the point completely. I do not care about a sport sedan. I had a Mercedes E 430 and it was a great car but that is not what I need now. It would get 28 mpg on the highway at 80 mph.

I will not spend that much on a car today.

You get your excitement from your car, I have moved on.

Is one of those things those who do not drive EVs think those who do, need. Just like gas stations on every street corner.

Even Tesla has tried it. Search YouTube for Tesla battery swap to see a robot change the battery out from under a Model S in 90 seconds. The first few years of Model S production were designed for this swap system.

No riddle me this: how much do you charge to rent a $20,000 battery that can easily be abused? Is my understanding Tesla charged $80 to swap. Plus one had to return within a period of time to get one’s original battery back. Don’t know if one was charged to pick up one’s charged battery. Don’t know if one was charged by the mike for the loaner battery, but it makes sense.

Tesla put one robotic battery swap station into operation for a year then shut it down. Not even Californians were willing to pay the necessary costs.

Think of the nightmare storing customer’s batteries separate from rental inventory? And does one dare operate such a multimillion dollar swap station without a full time attendant?

"Everyone" with $4000 laptop sitting in an overstuffed armchair in Mother's basement thinks the ultimate solution to all EV problems both real and imagined can be solved with "battery swap stations." After all it made a fortune for Dewalt, "how can it go wrong."

Everyone who has tried EV battery swap solutions has failed. Not for lack of standardization but for the cost and (this is sweet irony!) the inconvenience.

I wonder what the cost is however and what if the new one isn't as good as the old one? Sounds to me like a 'gas' station for electric vehicles. I would think that a concentration of them if they combusted, would make for one heck of a fire as well.

Sounds great! Perfect! But why are no successful EV manufacturers as smart as you? Do a bit of internet searching to find several who have tried and failed. And none who have succeeded.

Yes, one doesn't want to trade a new battery for a used battery on swap. This is why on Tesla's trial run one was expected to return soon to swap the rental battery for the one you owned. Else one could have the propane bottle situation where we take our 10+ year 20# bottles to the swap vending machine rather than find an inspection station for another 5 year certification. Am certainly not going to swap my gauged bottles for an ungauged bottle.

The hybrid AV solution is what Elon Musk sees initially. After experiencing the fast evolution of FSD over the past two years I expect the 10 year time line may shorten. Since Musk finally has been green lighted to plant a flag on Mars his 20 vision is coming into sight.
