So my solution was more tractors, the IH 574 just sits on the pto genny ready to go.
and if you ever do hook up your EV and charge it with the IH, pics please.

great way to routinely exercise his classic tractor
now someone needs to crunch the relative cost per kw, has to be more expensive generating it yourself
using a diesel tractor. I ass-ume...

I'm just now realizing how much it has improved my peace of mind. This is especially true since my wife can do it herself in case I'm not around or not able. Tough to put a $$ figure on that.
I'd say that ^, is worth the cost of the project Right There.

A mechanic @ Work is 72. We called an ambulance for him last Thursday - he needed to be checked out @ hospital. He is doing OK, and back @ work now..... none of us really know what tomorrow brings !

Honey, I was Thinking of You..... (y) is good cover !

Either way, adding capability is going to Cost..... changing over PTO shafts @ Minus_Siberia Temps is getting less attractive as I get older......

Hmmm.... pics of that, might make him a target of the Enviro Police.... (only partly joking...).

Not that you could run many of our tractors there, but ur's tales of stranded Teslas owned by surgeons he works with (during grid "Safety" shutdowns) were good examples of Times Where Cost Doesn't Matter.... esp. if you inhabit that Income Strata....

Visually, it would be a fun use of a tractor though.... I'd like to see an 8N doing that !

over $1K for the 400 hr. tractor maintenance.

YIKES!! Personally, I wouldn't have bought a tractor that cost THAT much, just to use it!

Mine cost under $50 bucks every 200 hours, it very easy to change the oil and do a quick check over, the tractor!

SR
That's if I let the dealer do engine & trans oil & filters. I can do it myself for just under $600.

It's the cost of owning a newer machine I guess.

I'm not sure what one has to do with the other. Yeah, most tractors only require engine oil and filter every 200 hours, plus a few dollars-worth of grease. But 400 hour service is usually oil + filter plus transmission oil and suction filter, primary fuel filter, final fuel filter, and depending on hours/year, maybe also coolant system flush and refill. It might also include engine air filter and cabin air filters, on some machines.

I agree $1k is high for the materials, and I do all service myself, so mine is not that high. But for those including shop labor and retrieval cost...

TODAY!
We’re expecting up to 4” snow in Texas, so I thought I’d go fire up the genset and run it.

No I haven't, yet I will do so one of these days.
It is going to be more expensive then utility electricity.

Agreed, and that's why I said.
