For those with whole house water filters, what type do you use?
I’m looking at something like this instead if the string cartridge filters.
Happy New Year!

I use a filter like you are showing - mine is 100 micron. Very nicely made. It's my main crud filter from the well and doesn't catch much if anything. From there the water goes to a set of three transparent GE plastic filters in parallel to keep the flow rate up, and those use typical Home Depot type 5 to 20 micron string or pressed paper fllters. Those catch a lot of iron I guess - anyway they start to look dirty at one month and try to change at three months.... sometimes six.

Next the water goes into a long stainess steel tube with an UV light bulb inside - that is what I use for killing viruses and bacteria instead of using chlorine. From there to the pressure tank and the water is ready for household use.

If I'm going to drink the water, cook with it, or make coffee there is a one gallon Reverse Osmosis setup in the kitchen for that purpose.

Good Morning and Happy new Year! 36˚F clear sunny skies and high of 58˚, NE light wind. Already warmed to 43˚.
The court yard trellis was delivered yesterday will assemble it today and also clean metal front doors, if it does not feel too cold.

During these temp swings this last week from the 30s-80s The house remains a constant 71-73˚ without the central air or heat. A really good built house. Heard no distant fireworks inside at midnight like before.

Surface pool robot is a little sick with a faulty on off switch, have a call and e-mail in to the company.
Black-eye peas and collards on the menu for good luck, of course it has not helped the last 5 years as we have lost a beloved relative or pet each year.

Thomas, you ever eat at Weathervane seafood, West Lebanon? I ate there in 2001.... Was going thru my NH, VT pictures which are poorly dated, then went to quicken which has good dates for where I stayed and ate... I don't remember going there, but it's in quicken. Stayed at White river junction Hampton Inn, and we went to church in White river junction the next day. After that we headed west on Rt 4 to Rutland, then south on Rt 7, I think..

Interesting you filter prior to the pressure tank, I was thinking after the tank.

A really good built house.
unlike mine, with 8 degree swings between rooms on a very cold day
insulation and windows are so important.
Don, your place is likely insulated to a very high R value. And I bet your glass is treated.
Whoever built your home wanted the best he could get.
I bet you are still discovering custom touches.

thankfully my little electric radiator in the office keeps that area plenty warm.
easy to heat up whole house, have plenty of capacity, but the fuel oil burner
is drinking three buck chuck on me.

So that stays on 71, but it really isn't, kitchen is several degrees cooler no matter what
that dial says. Wearing a sweater helps, fleece being my favorite.
hmmm, fleece zip up sweater with an alpaca collar. Now we're talking...
next week going to get mighty cold, will stay at freezing or below for at least a week on end.

the cold of winter is a great time to bake. You get double benefit for all that heat generated.
little stuff like leaving door to toaster oven open when finished
run free little btu's...
if you don't have a fireplace or woodstove, it's slim pickings.

An overly tight house isn't the best thing always.
You have to monitor air quality and install a air exchanger.
Friend of mine didn't take that into account and he and his family always seemed to be sick when they moved back into their highly renovated house.
When they finally got it checked they had elevated levels of carbon monoxide, particulate matter and other off gasses from finishes etc.
There is something to be said for fresh air.
