Cool Or Creepy Things Found In The Bush Or On Your Property

When we lived in very rural Maine 25 years ago, I was out in the woods one day admiring those who had farmed that ground before me and lived where they did. There was an old stone wall looking kind of ramp I'll guess was used to load cattle. That would have been long ago as that area had all grown over.

Despite being there many times, I looked in a part of a wall and found a 50 lb rock with a man-made grove cut around it and then smoothed out. With what tools I don't know but probably from very long ago and the earliest settlers. It took some work to put that groove in.

I learned it was used to tie a length of rope to the rock on one end and the cow on the other end to keep them in the yard. The groove was to keep the rope from slipping out. We may have moved but I still have that rock out in the yard.

My SIL bought a 1890's house in Idaho... about 2008. She hired a contractor to build a breezeway/roof between the house and garage. Up in the attic tucked behind a framed wall they found a manilla envelope containing $14000. All the bills were pre-2000. Someone pulling money from the bank during the y2k scare???

Very old porcelain fired dolls heads. I've found a few in the middle of no where. They always creep me out.
Just the heads? That IS creepy.

Creepiest thing I've found is arrows sticking straight down into the ground in the middle of my yard.

Lots of animal skeletons, mostly deer.

Used condoms and feminine hygiene items
In your yard since you've lived there? Or as you bought a property?
Someone lobbing arrows at you while you're cutting the grass or something?
Used condoms? Friggin' yikes !!

Some time back my dad, now deceased 2 years, and I were out spring turkey hunting on our ranch. While looking for a downed bird dad stumbled across a rock. It had an arrow scribed in the top of it. Realizing it was an old marker, I GPS’d it and we protected it IN PLACE where cows couldn’t trip on it, etc.
We contacted a nearby university archeologist and sent pictures. He in turn contacted several more across the state and set up a time to come look at it. All agreed it was Spanish and an old trail was also discovered nearby, all overgrown. This is in the general area of what’s called the Runaway Scrape which was the route used by those living in the path of the approaching Mexican army after the fall of the Alamo. It was some sort of route marker and the arrow was cut into the rock using copper, which they said was brought by the Spanish. The archeologists all stated they had never seen anything like it. Using a compass and a mapping app, it appeared to point towards the intersection of two rivers and possible an old Spanish fort. Their suggest was to mark it, which they did, remove it, and place in a box full of sand to keep it from cracking. We never found that downed turkey.
That's cool !!

I just followed your link and have to say BS on it being a prank. What kind of lantern works underwater, and would stay lit for three days?
Several people have reported seeing it fall from the sky. There also were a few other disparities but I can't remember what they were so obviously the government has fogged my mind. "They" learned from Roswell; this is nothing but a big coverup.

I don't fully agree with the hoax theory myself. There are many folks around here who don't believe the lantern theory either. I personally know three different people who saw that flatbed truck, with a tarp covering something, leave the scene. I'm not a big believer in UFO's though, but I will agree that there are a lot of unexplained phenomenal sightings.

In any case, the festival generates a lot of revenue for local businesses and it's a fun event.

I hope you realize that my post was made in jest. I am curious about the lantern, but that still seems more likely than the alternative.

Flatbed truck may even have been part of the hoax.

Who knows? Anyway, it's an interesting phenomenon which created a festival that's helped a struggling town recover from the collapse of the coal industry.

Not on my property but nearby.

Back in 1974, I was walking an abandoned rail bed that passed through an old strip mine. I came up on a crowd of people standing next to a flooded stripping pit. They were looking at a green glow coming from the bottom of the pond. Word spread that a UFO had crashed into the pond.

The police were called and it created quite a stir until scuba divers recovered an old railroad lantern. It turned out to be a hoax created by a couple of boys who threw the lantern in and claimed they saw a UFO crash into the pond. Even so, the story got out and created a conspiracy theory which survives to this day.

Every year, the town of Carbondale has it's "Carbondalien Festival" which just celebrated it's 50th anniversary.

I didn't click the link, but I still have a question.
GREEN glow from an old mine lantern?

The green glow was caused by algae in the stagnant pond.
