Cool Or Creepy Things Found In The Bush Or On Your Property

When we lived in very rural Maine 25 years ago, I was out in the woods one day admiring those who had farmed that ground before me and lived where they did. There was an old stone wall looking kind of ramp I'll guess was used to load cattle. That would have been long ago as that area had all grown over.

Despite being there many times, I looked in a part of a wall and found a 50 lb rock with a man-made grove cut around it and then smoothed out. With what tools I don't know but probably from very long ago and the earliest settlers. It took some work to put that groove in.

I learned it was used to tie a length of rope to the rock on one end and the cow on the other end to keep them in the yard. The groove was to keep the rope from slipping out. We may have moved but I still have that rock out in the yard.

My SIL bought a 1890's house in Idaho... about 2008. She hired a contractor to build a breezeway/roof between the house and garage. Up in the attic tucked behind a framed wall they found a manilla envelope containing $14000. All the bills were pre-2000. Someone pulling money from the bank during the y2k scare???

Very old porcelain fired dolls heads. I've found a few in the middle of no where. They always creep me out.
Just the heads? That IS creepy.

Creepiest thing I've found is arrows sticking straight down into the ground in the middle of my yard.

Lots of animal skeletons, mostly deer.

Used condoms and feminine hygiene items
In your yard since you've lived there? Or as you bought a property?
Someone lobbing arrows at you while you're cutting the grass or something?
Used condoms? Friggin' yikes !!

Some time back my dad, now deceased 2 years, and I were out spring turkey hunting on our ranch. While looking for a downed bird dad stumbled across a rock. It had an arrow scribed in the top of it. Realizing it was an old marker, I GPS’d it and we protected it IN PLACE where cows couldn’t trip on it, etc.
We contacted a nearby university archeologist and sent pictures. He in turn contacted several more across the state and set up a time to come look at it. All agreed it was Spanish and an old trail was also discovered nearby, all overgrown. This is in the general area of what’s called the Runaway Scrape which was the route used by those living in the path of the approaching Mexican army after the fall of the Alamo. It was some sort of route marker and the arrow was cut into the rock using copper, which they said was brought by the Spanish. The archeologists all stated they had never seen anything like it. Using a compass and a mapping app, it appeared to point towards the intersection of two rivers and possible an old Spanish fort. Their suggest was to mark it, which they did, remove it, and place in a box full of sand to keep it from cracking. We never found that downed turkey.
That's cool !!

I just followed your link and have to say BS on it being a prank. What kind of lantern works underwater, and would stay lit for three days?
Several people have reported seeing it fall from the sky. There also were a few other disparities but I can't remember what they were so obviously the government has fogged my mind. "They" learned from Roswell; this is nothing but a big coverup.

I don't fully agree with the hoax theory myself. There are many folks around here who don't believe the lantern theory either. I personally know three different people who saw that flatbed truck, with a tarp covering something, leave the scene. I'm not a big believer in UFO's though, but I will agree that there are a lot of unexplained phenomenal sightings.

In any case, the festival generates a lot of revenue for local businesses and it's a fun event.

I hope you realize that my post was made in jest. I am curious about the lantern, but that still seems more likely than the alternative.

Flatbed truck may even have been part of the hoax.

Who knows? Anyway, it's an interesting phenomenon which created a festival that's helped a struggling town recover from the collapse of the coal industry.

Not on my property but nearby.

Back in 1974, I was walking an abandoned rail bed that passed through an old strip mine. I came up on a crowd of people standing next to a flooded stripping pit. They were looking at a green glow coming from the bottom of the pond. Word spread that a UFO had crashed into the pond.

The police were called and it created quite a stir until scuba divers recovered an old railroad lantern. It turned out to be a hoax created by a couple of boys who threw the lantern in and claimed they saw a UFO crash into the pond. Even so, the story got out and created a conspiracy theory which survives to this day.

Every year, the town of Carbondale has it's "Carbondalien Festival" which just celebrated it's 50th anniversary.

I didn't click the link, but I still have a question.
GREEN glow from an old mine lantern?

The green glow was caused by algae in the stagnant pond.

Yes, new-style arrows, find one every couple of years for 18 years. Never saw one land, thankfully, but they are in areas where I would be standing when taking the dog out or whatever.

Many low-lifes live in my area and all of them drive past my house regularly and dump their trash. Diapers, you name it....

In a park that was local to my old house.
We would go mountain biking in the woods all the time.
Would find little decorations etc. in the woods.

One day someone set up a whole "classroom" of dolls on little rough made desks.
It was there for many years, think it made the papers once.

No one stepped up to claim they did it.

Kinda creepy.
Same deal near me. People go out to the local trails and put colorful little gnome doors with rounded tops over holes in the bases of trees.

I took the pool cover off of our pool one year and saw a black ring about 4" in diameter on the bottom. It was a 9mm jacketed slug. The jacket reacted with the salt water making the stain. There was a small hole in the winter cover. It scrubbed right off.

But goes to show you what goes up... comes down somewhere.

Remember back about 30 years ago when a couple of guys stole a plastic gnome from somebody's yard and then starting sending anonymous pictures of the gnome with famous landmarks in the background from around the world?

They would get a snapshot with the stolen gnome at the Eiffel Tower or the pyramids or maybe Niagara Falls? They guys finally fessed up, returned the gnome and everyone had a good laugh. I think that concept is behind the gnome in the hotel ads often seen in print or on TV.

Couple time a year when walking the property, women's underwear and used condoms. Sometime surrounded by beer cans.

I posted this in the "Tell us something" thread but I'll post it here as well....

My neighbor told me there was an old septic tank between my garage and theirs "Right under that low spot in the grass." So I started digging. About a foot down under the grass I found a suitcase. Inside the suitcase was a metal doll stroller, and about a dozen empty plastic syrup, mustard and detergent bottles..... I stopped digging.

Not on our property, but about a mile or so away.

Gunshots, lady was walking her dog down the road, finds an injured Bald Eagle in the ditch.

What kind of JERK shoots a Bald Eagle?

Bird was transported to a vet that specializes in Birds, unfortunately the Eagle succumbed to it's injuries.

I Hope they catch this person. Will post up any more news on this, So far this does not sound like the Eagle was hit by a car, but was shot.

Vet pulled out ~ 20 pellets of Buckshot, the Bald Eagle had a broken wing and ribs.

I don't concider myself a jerk but if a bald eagle was threatening my pets..... And I'm not much of a pet man either.

Well shooting it next to a community hall, with a shotgun and leaving the National Symbol of America to bleed out in a ditch is chicken sh-- in my book and my wife's brother actually did have their little dog scooped up by an Eagle right in front of all of us at an outside party a few years back. Unfortunate yes.

No one in that area has complained of Eagle attacks the Lady walking the dogs does it virtually everyday, I hope someone's property camera caught video.

The Law on shooting Bald Eagles may be a bit different in Canada...

Sorry for the Rant, but I still think it was a Jerk Move.

ps. What the Law says:

Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act

The Bald Eagle will continue to be protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act even though it has been delisted under the Endangered Species Act.
This law, originally passed in 1940, provides for the protection of the Bald Eagle and the Golden Eagle (as amended in 1962) by prohibiting the take, possession, sale, purchase, barter, offer to sell, purchase or barter, transport, export or import, of any Bald or Golden eagle, alive or dead, including any part, nest, or egg, unless allowed by permit Bald Eagle sitting in tree (16 U.S.C. 668(a); 50 CFR 22).
“Take” includes pursue, shoot, shoot at, poison, wound, kill, capture, trap, collect, molest or disturb (16 U.S.C. 668c; 50 CFR 22.3).
The 1972 amendments increased civil penalties for violating provisions of the Act to a maximum fine of $5,000 or one year imprisonment with $10,000 or not more than two years in prison for a second conviction.
Felony convictions carry a maximum fine of $250,000 or two years of imprisonment. The fine doubles for an organization.
Rewards are provided for information leading to arrest and conviction for violation of the Act.
