The fall and winter hive losses are looking loke the worst ever.
Here is an update from Oregon State University:

Just looked at my

bee yards yesterday, and they are looking ok so far. February is when they usually succumb.

I live on the east coast and the bee keepers in our area have had more losses this fall than normal. I think this year is going to be challenging for beekeepers. Our weather was hot and dry this summer could be a factor but don’t really know. Good luck with your bees.

Yeah I'm seeing articles from all over. Every beekeeper I've talked to had large honey production drops

We ended up adding 9 colonies. Lots of swarms this year. However that also meant that many swarms were not very viable.

Our bees did ok storing up for winter, but since we don't feed them sugar like most, we won't be harvesting from many of them.

I'm sure the guys that feed sugar, just fed more sugar.

I should know more in a week or two. Wife plans to get a frame or two from her hive.

She fed sugar water in year one, but I don't believe she's done any of that this year.

Our boys are coming out this weekend, so she wants to show them/use their muscle. I stay away from the bees.

I went into winter last year with 4 colonies. 3 were gone by early spring. I'm going into winter with only 1 colony this year. I don't have high hopes of being a beekeeper by the time spring hits. However the 1 colony I have is doing really well right now.

We do not bee keep, just another thing that would need doing that we don't have time for but we did have a rather large colony that lived in a hollow in a cedar tree for several years and I noted that this year they were all gone. As far as I know nothing was sprayed or anything done to kill them out, I hate that they are gone.

I did not stumble into any ground bee colonies this year. There were far less bee's taking advantage of my hummingbird sugar water this year.
