One of the auger shear bolts on my BX2816 snowblower broke. That side of auger spins freely, but it looks like the bolt off broke cleanly inside of the inner axel, if that's possible and I can't push it out to replace it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Line up the auger holes with the spindle and remaining bolt and drive it out with a punch or a smaller diameter bolt.

Thanks, I've tried that, but no luck. Probably try again tomorrow when I've calmed down a bit.

It takes good light to see the remaining center section if the auger shaft has turned for any time. The evidence gets smeared.

remember to orient the auger 180 degrees off from the one on the other side when you put the new shear bolt in.

Ask me why I mention that ;-)

If you are having trouble lining up the broken bolt remember that there might be some side to side movement you have to make as well with the auger, not just the front to back movement. Once you have it lined up properly, use a C clamp and some old sockets that you can as spacers to squeeze a piece of threaded rod against the broken portion to push it totally out so you can then insert a new shear bolt in place.

Also, if the hole is slightly off center you might need to rotate the auger 180 degrees for better alignment.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but still no luck. Kubota is coming on Wed and the service guy assures me that they will get it out. I think that I'll have to replace what they call the output shaft. They'll just have to take out the whole gear box and auger assembly... just a few nuts and bolts.

Why do the right and left augers which are attached to the output shaft with the shear bolts need to be lubricated? They rotate together... Just wondering.

So they don’t rust together which would make the shear bolts not do their job.

I also have problems getting things lined up with my Berco snowblower for my tractor. The machining of the holes are a very close tolerance so getting them lined up precisely to punch them through is fun(?). A bright light and a magnifying glass helped me see better. Was still a lesson in patience to keep trying to get it lined up. Pondering when I take it apart to lube the shafts next summer I may try to color the shaft so the bolt shows up better.
