Which is best: Original (with original soundtrack) - 1974
Re-Release (with generic soundtrack) - 2000
Remake - 2014

I vote for the original 1974 movie. To me the original sound track goes perfectly with the amateur nature of the production. That is not meant to be derogatory in any way because the charm of the story and the movie lies in the fact that an amateur on a shoestring budget was able to create something so campy and cool with no "big stars" whatsoever.

If you've never seen the movie with the original soundtrack, this channel has cleaned up versions of all the songs and lots of other interesting stuff:

What about other remakes, better or worse than original?

"A Christmas Carol" with George C. Scott (1984). The movie and dialog are near verbatim of the original book. Lots of remakes, but this version is an annual rite.

Nicolas Cage did a good job with the 2000 version. He had a fun supporting cast.

From the movie: "...Boy, you need a role model..." (said to another by one of the guys stealing a car!)

It's still a frequent familial saying when seeing someone making a bad decision...

I always liked actors like Steve McQueen who did as much of their own stunt work as was possible.
The driver in the original GI60 really did all his own driving. The huge accident where he almost cuts the front end off the Mustang on a pole wasn't in the script. It just happened and he kept going.
I can't see Nicky Cage doing that or without stuntmen and at the time, limited AI.
They still have the Mustang from the original on display.

I believe he also used mostly his own cars for the movie, except for the "star" cars, like Big Oly Bronco and Aggie's Rolls.

You raise a good point, i.e., HB did his own stunts. Supposedly this was also filmed without benefit of permits or street closures, they just went out and did it. Better to ask forgiveness than permission.... Stuff you would never get away with nowadays.

I guess my bias might also be related to the fact that my parents has a 1972 Mustang at the time the movie came out. Unfortunately, it was a coupe, not fastback like Eleanor...

Steve Mc Queen had presence and could carry a movie. He didn't need special effects or CGI.
The Mustang, Charger and Porsche 356 in Bullitt didn't hurt any.

...and any movie with Robert Duvall can't be bad either.
I won't watch anything with Sylvester Stallone.
Way back I was working in the accounting offices where he was staying for a movie shoot.
Arrogant, rude and demanding. People working there were given strict orders not to speak directly to him or even look him directly in the eyes.
I'm about 5'10" (used to be  ) and I was taller than him and him playing all these tough guys.
Little man syndrome +++.

Really like Robert De Niro but lost some respect for him when he started doing a bunch of just paycheck movies.
One of my favorites is Midnight Run. Great buddy movie.
