Has anyone retrofitted their CUT with reversible fan blades? I'm thinking it would be nice to reverse direction on command to blow out the rad every once in a while like you can on the construction equipment.

I doubt the fan would generate enough air flow to completely clean all the chaff from the radiator. It might reduce the buildup over time. Interesting idea though.

I keep a compressor in the tractor barn and just blow it out from time to time. More frequently if I'm operating in a particularly dirty environment.

Lately I've been using a leaf blower with good success. It's been so dry and dusty here this fall I'm finding the screens getting plugged quickly.

The M59 also generates a LOT of heat, I'm thinking it could keep the cab cooler by reversing the fan. Would lose the benefit of the -prescreen though.

I've thought about adding an air compressor to the tractor. It sure would be handy.
It seems odd that tractors don't come with an onboard air compressor.

I’ve considered the “clean fix” brand of reversible fan for my Massey 7495.
Tired of cleaning out hay chaff kicked up from front mower.

Looks like about $2,500 installed since I already have on-board air. Air is required to reverse the blades and I have air brakes on the Massey and a compressor, just like an air braked truck.

Might do it this winter.

Have seen larger Toro mowers at golf courses that have that reversing fan.
Guess the operators use them frequently.

I can see the advantage but I wouldn't personally install one. The factory fan on newer larger hp tractors is equipped with a fan clutch that regulates the fan speed to control the flow of air through the radiator. A reversing fan eliminates that feature. So instead you have a fan that is constantly pulling maximum air through the radiator. The end result is that you have this constant annoying howling noise from the fan that penetrates the cab. Just buy a leaf blower or a portable air compressor. They are a lot cheaper and do an adequate job. That's my opinion after driving a tractor equipped with one.

I’ve done the leaf blower and have on board compressed air for years.
After the 10th time of getting down out of the tractor, cleaning the outside of the hood or worse, cleaning radiators, in the same field, the reversing fan might be an option.

I’ll have to see if the clean fix version looks like it’ll work for me. Other than the cost, there’s probably another built in set of unwanted issues.

Haydude I can see it in your situation. I just wanted people to see that it isn't the perfect answer. I've had to clean my radiator on my tractor. But only after a chaffy situation. Never 10 times on one job. Every time pulling the screen and cleaning it off is good enough till I get home.

The last series of actual International tractors in the very early 1980s the 88 series (3088, 3488, 3688, 5088, 5288 & 5488) had the fan mounted in front of the radiator, but they did by running the fan shaft through the center of the radiator.

I don’t know how they fared longevity wise though.

Back in the day - 60's, 70's Caterpillar Track Type Tractors had a reversable fan. In warmer weather the fan was adjusted to blow forward thru the radiator and the heat away from the operator, and then in colder weather the fan would be reversed to draw thru the radiator and provide some warmth to the operator.

Post some pics if you get this system!

Will do. With my businesses situation it comes down to choosing between improving what equipment I have, or buying additional equipment to open new doors to making more gross profit.
Tough choices.

It’s an added expense and something else to break, in my humble opinion

Having to stop the machine for high temp alarms and clean out chaff is a waste of time and money too. So are engine fires.

It would be really nice to reverse the fan on my BX in the Winter to provide heat!! The BX fan pulls from the operator station toward the front of the machine, the ability to reverse the flow would negate the need for a dedicated heater!.

Great thought food!

Look for manually reversible fans, I had them on my CAT dozer, I just manually turned the blades 180 degrees for winter operation.
