So, I am not a landscaper, just a small hobby farm guy, clearing my property, and making it "home". I have been using my SKIL 40V Power Core Line Trimmer (I call it a Weed Eater) around my house for some time now, with great results. But, now that I have moved onto the property, I needed a more powerful weed eater (that's what I grew up calling them, so now ya know.. )

I've been a Stihl fan for a few decades now, and I own a MS250 and MS280 Stihl chainsaws. So, I bought a brand new Stihl FS91R. I used it yesterday for the first time, cleaning out the drainage ditch that runs the road line of my property. Took me a good hour to cut the ditch, and I was very impressed with how much power it has. I mixed up a gallon of Non-Ethanol fuel and a bottle of Stihl oil. I let it run for a bit, before getting after the heavy stuff, but it ran like a champ.

Now, to hunt for the best line... gonna head over to that thread and read up!

I will be using the snot out of this trimmer... love it!

I have an FS110 that I use as a brushcutter with a metal blade.

Been happy with it for the past 5 years, it takes a beating and is still working strong.
The only thing is it is more finicky on gas/oil mix so I probably need to adjust it a bit.

Hope your new 91 does as well or better.

I use square .095 string, but there are tons of opinions on string and I have only used a few.
I won't go smaller than the .095 though, breaks too fast.

Does that have the autofeed head where you cut a length of string feed it through and then wind it up?
I love that feature on my M18 string trimmer.

No, not that I have seen. I replaced the OEM string, with some .105 Husq Commercial Line I had. I had to take the spool out, manually wind it, then put it back in. Not a problem, but I may change the head out to one of the speed feed ones. We shall see.

I have the same weedeater. Bought new 7 years ago. Always starts. I have a battery powered trimmer for around the house and the sidewalk so I don't use string on the stihl anymore. I run the metal blade for everything, including tall grass. If your're clearing any small trees, get a chainsaw style tooth blade. My only regret is not buying the bike handle model. I have looked into buying a handle conversion but wasn't cost effective.
