We actually do have weight based road tax in addition to the regular fuel tax but it starts at 55k tagged weight and above.
Yup, similar here - we've got a fair selection of taxes and fees too. 5.5% sales tax on the sale price the first time you put a vehicle on the road, yearly registration fees also based on combined GVWR - truck, trailer, all cargo combined, starting at 6000 lbs, incrementally increasing. yearly excise tax based on the initial sticker price of the vehicle starting at 2.4% and tiered down to 0.4% after 7(?) years, so even a 20+ year old vehicle you still pay that tax every year. our trailer registrations are cheap though. lots of people from other states register here.

i'm sure that overall, we're probably cheaper than any similarly developed country, but some of that is balanced by it being part of our culture and geography - it's a big open space. and many of us have large commutes to make daily and public transportation doesn't exist. every level of government still seems to be getting its piece of the pie, and in general, most essential services are getting funded without doubling our fuel price and other taxes to match some countries. It's a balance for certain when it comes to how much we have to pay in taxes vs. what services we get for those taxes.

Yep, but green. Some how, dad always ended up with green ford's. He didn't even like Ford, but that was pretty much what he always had
I always like green on a Ford. Red on a Ram. I'll have to wait for Ford to start offering green again.

You should see Ram’s green.
I think that’s the color I will be going with on my next Ram/Cummins.

So, for the last probably 15 years, I've driven company or county/city trucks/vehicles that essentially have a target on them, for people to call and complain about everything from how long you idle, to when you take lunch, and how you drive. My personal truck; incognito. Plain white Ram, the same as a dozen other trucks within the area. Yes, it's 4wd, but it doesn't have any of the badging, no bumper stickers, no lift, just 1 size up from factory tires, and all terrains.

Mostly those are people who dont work themself. Retired folks, unemployed, housewifes that arent challenged enough by their daily chores, are people that nag about other people who make civilisation possible for them.

When people nag and dont mind their own business, its 95% of the time because they simply have no business to attend.

I remember when i was in Canada 20 years ago, they advertised the Chrysler 300C with a base price of 29.900 Canadian on TV. Back in Holland they asked more than double. All taxes.

...when you take a leak....:(

On the other hand, having the truck in plain white wrapper and looking like a utility company truck can work in your favor sometimes too. Tree huggers leave you alone more because they think you are driving the truck because you "need" it.

I have the same mentality WRT all of my vehicles. Neutral color, no custom license plate, etc. The last thing I want, given my sometimes aggressive driving, is to be memorable or easily identified.
