I have a massey ferguson 1540 & am not sure if the linkage is regular agri linkage size or smaller compact tractor linkage - how can I measure or find out? silly question maybe, but I dont have an owners manual

From what I can find on the internet it looks like your three point hitch is Category #1 with a lift capacity of 2,800 pounds. This does not necessarily mean that you can put an implement that heavy on your tractor. There are other factors that come into play to determine that.

Best thing to do is get a manual for it!!

Hope this helps!!

Thanks much - agreed, manual is step 1. Thanks again.

We run a MF1533 - same frame just 7 ponies less under the hood.

The 2800# lift is rated. It is a Cat 1 - 3pt hitch.
We do have a manual. What do you need to know?

Thanks @bearthebruce, much appreciated. How did you get your hands on a .pdf copy of the manual?

I'm looking for the recommended oil/air/fuel filters & recommended oils - I want to give her a good service

Just did that on the 1533... the Hydraulic and air filters I would guess to be the same. Not sure about the engine oil filter and the fuel filter.

I have all of those part numbers. If they are not in the service manual I linked in the PM, let me know. I'll get them.

Pretty sure they are listed in the Service Manual too.

The Hydraulic service is pretty easy but you do need a big pan! 11 gallons.

many thanks @DarkBlack - I will be sure to send a request if I have something specific.

How do you find the 1540? Any issues or things for me to avoid/be wary of?

The only issue that I’m aware of is an intermittent hydraulic pump chatter and resulting loader chatter on certain models during the series. I never bought mine back for evaluation, as it was just out of warranty when I bought it. It does it every once in a while. I’m not sure if it involves a complete pump change or not. There’s a split in serial numbers where the suction components were changed, like the hydraulic filter and hose. I’ve put in the second series.
Otherwise it’s a pretty bulletproof machine

As others have stated, the 3 point setup is category 1

The manual calls out 10w30 diesel oil, but I’ve always run common 15w40, or 5w40

We run Rotella T6 5w-40 for engine oil and we use a Napa 1394 on our 33 hp 1533... you have a larger engine and the filter may be different.

Need a Massey Ferguson Manual?

Go to

www.agcopubs.com

There you can purchase any manual for almost any Massey Ferguson, Allis Chalmers, Agco and all the manufacturers under the Agco umbrella.
Usually reasonably priced. Whether it be an owner manual, service manual, or parts manual.
If you just want to look up parts go at

https://parts.agcocorp.com/us/en.

Again all manufacturers under the Agco umbrella.

Here's a link to a 1547 manual. It seems to be in the 1500 series, too. AGCO MASSEY FERGUSON 1547 SERVICE MANUAL Pdf Download
brochure: https://manualzz.com/doc/56099657/massey-ferguson-mf-1519--mf-1523--mf-1532--mf-1540--mf-15...
Some user groups or forums have a library of manuals.
