I don't know, but most failures are Freon leaks...it's getting out someplace.
It does seem to me that when manufacturers change refrigerant types, that there is a bit of a learning curve as they sort out seals, lubricants, fittings, etc. for the new refrigerant. I try not to be an early adopter...

All the best,

Peter

I'll look into the Speed Queen's next time I'm in the market for a washer/dryer.
They aren't cheap. About $1100 for a basic washer, but you get what you pay for.

Samsung recalls over a million stoves due to fire risk;

Why? Because the control knobs are at the front of the stove and both people and pets can turn the stoves on. I thought that design went out decades ago for this exact reason.

All the best,

My stove has the knobs on the front that you push to turn. Maybe that's the issue, that they weren't push and turn.

Did you see the recent video of a dog chewing a lithium battery, causing it to ignite? Dang dogs, worse than kids.

I am not profession to be an expert. Fifty years ago I worked on all home appliances including water heaters and window air conditioners.
At that time knew a good bit on the central A/C units but never worked on one.
Since then so many brands have disappeared. Some were bought and some just died.
It was sad when GE was bought by a Chianese company. Right sure that leaves Whirlpool as the only major US appliance company.
As was mentioned a gas range normally last a long time regardless the brand. It was and is still my impression standard ranges, less options more so last a long time unless abused. Such as spraying clears into electronic controls. Freezers, water heaters also are normally see long lives. Now stay away from the really cheap with any appliance.
It was always my opinion Whirlpool was over all the best brand. They are not all US built machines. Not sure all are but their front end loader washers and dryer were built in Germany. Made sense they had them years before were popular in the US. Over the years hate to guess all the brands Whirlpool has bought. Maytag, Amana, Roper, Kitchen Aid. Think right on those and right sure there are others.
We have had three Whirlpool appliances that disappointed us, (housekeeping 50 years) a microwave maybe 10 years, double oven, also 10 or few more years, and a dishwasher say 8 years. Not bad.

My best recommendation is to look at reviews and read them carefully. Some of the reviews are so "dumb". Oh I gave it 5 stars and cannot wait till I get it. Or 1 star because it was dented. Two stars I do reach are the 1 and 5 stars. Don't miss the sales person, of course they will try to sell the brands they have but most will be honest between the brands they do sell.

Hey you Bosch advocates. Is it worth it? Sell me on Bosch! I am seriously considering it. Gonna cost about $2000 over Frigidaire gallery. But it would be worth it to me if they are going to last longer than the other brands.

For a dishwasher, definitely Bosch. Our current one is Bosch and it does the best cleaning job and is quieter than any dishwasher we’ve had previously. As for other appliances, I’ve never owned Bosch. But judging by the clear superiority of the dishwasher, I would expect good things from Bosch.

+1 on @jyoutz's comments on Bosch. Ours is practically silent, and in 15 years, the only service was a pump replacement, which took longer to order than to replace. Ours seems to be basically self cleaning as far as the filters go. Every couple of years a pebble will get in, and drops safely to the bottom of the filters. The only reason that I notice is that the cycle time will jump up by five or ten minutes. We use Finish packets, and Rinse-Aid, with no residue on either the glasses, cutlery, or dishwasher filters. We have had four in the extended family for 15-20 years and nobody has had to replace one. We would all replace any Bosch dishwasher that died with another Bosch in a heartbeat. Silent, and work great.

I have used Bosch stoves and ovens occasionally in other people's homes and liked them, but to me they certainly have a price premium.

So, are Bosch appliances better compared to Frigidaire / GE / Whirlpool? Without question. Are Bosch appliances perfect? Not in my experience, but they aren't shoddy or engineered for cost savings unlike many other brands. Is it worth the cost premium to you? That's not my call.

All the best,

Peter

P.S. our water is quite hard, and though softened still has a fair amount of dissolved solids. I think it is pretty amazing that the dishwasher isn't caked in deposits. YMMV.

Frigidaire sucks. I bought Refrigerator, range, over the range microwave/exhaust fan, dishwasher when I redid the house I bought not even two years ago.

Dishwasher didn't work right out of the box. Took three weeks, two different techs, and three trips to get it to turn on. One and a half years later it quit "cleaning" the dishes. Tried everything. Cleaning screens three times a day. Running empty cycles to make sure it is flushed out. Cycles with vinegar. No luck. Trash.
Oven control board died after 6 months. Again 4 weeks to get the part. Two different techs and two trips to fix it. I finally had to put the new board in myself because they said it would be two more weeks to get the tech back out to install it.
Refrigerator constantly freezes what ever is on the top shelf.

I am putting KitchenAid in my new house. Ended up buying the dishwasher and using it now and then when the new house is built I will take it out and move it to the new house. Kitchenaid dishwasher is phenomenal. It is their top of the line 3 rack model.
I went with KitchenAid because Bosch doesn't have a sidebyside refrigerator.

Peter, thank you for another thorough and enlightening response.

Don't get me wrong I AM A CHEAPSKATE. However, with this addition I am trying my best to stifle my cheapskate ways and put good quality things into the house. Bought higher end Lincoln windows, went with the architectural shingles, etc. Cry once buy once I guess. For a couple of reasons. First of all I am almost 50 and feel that if I put good quality stuff in here the majority of it will last me the better part of the time I have remaining. Also Who knows what replacement of these kinds of things will cost in the future and if quality continues to degrade what will the quality be like in 15 years. In my opinion many aspects of our future are uncertain by buying quality I feel like I am insulating myself from that at least a little bit.

We went Bosch for our dishwasher and Fisher & Paykal for our fridge.
Tired of replacing appliances every five years.

The original GE 1957 Dishwasher rusted out in 1977... so 20 years.

Replaced with Magic Chef $219 dishwasher in 1977 and still working in 2024 although not used much the last 10 years...

I've installed several Bosch dishwashers and all happy customers...

Where did the old hand washing of dishes in the sink go? We still do that for most dishes. Far as appliances go, they are designed with a 10 year replacement life today. Don't matter what brand actually.

We are happy with our Frigidaire gas range. But all gas ranges seem to work well regardless of brand.

Just had a Samsung front load washer destroy itself after 3 years. Wife put three small pillows in it and washed them on normal cycle.
During high speed spin it got out of balance and flopped around.
Was so bad it ripped a concrete weight anchor bolt then another one just tore a chunk right out of the tub. needs new tub, anchor bolt and concrete weight as a minimum.

was a 1200 dollar washer with all the fancy stuff including supposed AI. Not sure if its bad design or wifes fault but to keep the peace-I said it was a bad design. Maybe she should have selected pillows on the AI knob.

My new LG is arriving tomorrow,
New LG is crap too, have to put small loads and low spin or otherwise get UE errors everytime. Tech came out said it was normal and washer was fine. I hate new crap! Now Im stuck with a 1500 dollar wimpy washer.

About the only thing to fail on a gas range is the Piezo ignition.
on the newer ones it's the hot surface ignitor and circuit board for bake, broil , etc,.

Most stuff around here, especially in the summer months, gets microwaved. We don't have ac so range work causes excess heat and my wife buys microwaveable meals mostly.

The appliance company we're using for our home build in Oregon highly dis-recommended Bosch. There's no one in the area that services them and parts are hard to get. So check if you can get service and parts especially if you're not close to a good size urban area.

Also both they and the home builder suggested buying the appliances from one company. The finishes will match that way, and also there's a manufacturer discount that gets larger the more appliances you buy.
