Ford 1510
Hi, My 1510 has suddenly started acting strange.
It seems to be moving forward slower than before and sounds like the engine is bogging down a bit. The odd part is, if I raise or lower the bucket while driving, the engine speed picks back up and the tractor speed goes back up.
Not having any issues with the bucket at all, just with driving. The slightest hill will also slow me down, unless I start to manipulate the bucket.

Any thoughts on that one??

Hi PaulT1966,

I'm not familiar with a 1510, but using logic i wondered if an obstruction in the hydraulic system could explain this. If the hydraulic pump is normally permanently pumping, an obstruction in the circuit that recirculates the "unused" flow would create a workload on the motor that would be reduced when you lifted the bucket and gave the fluid somewhere to go.

Someone with a thorough knowledge of the 1510 hydraulics may be able to confirm if the system is configured in a way that makes this explanation possible or not.

Good luck with this one.

Possibly try lowering the 3 point a little to see if this makes a difference. On some models of tractors if the feed back lever for 3 point is slightly out of adjustment it will keep the pump loaded so operating the loader empty would relief this load.

Another simple test would be to curl the bucket back fully. release joystick so in neutral position. Listen to tractor engine and try to curl the bucket, does the engine tone change? If not this would point towards the system being loaded all the time.

I was thinking along the lines of an obstruction too.
Then I read oldnslo's comment below. Although I have the stop positioned, some other people have used the tractor recently, so maybe that got bumped.

I have a feeling I'm going to look pretty silly this morning.
Thanks for the reply!

Check your 3pt lever, my 1910 had a sticky lever and was stuck all the way back keeping the pump working, just a slight bump forward and my rpm came back to normal.
Good luck!

oldnslo beat me to it but I think he is spot on.

not familiar with the 1510, but most tractors that have a loader.....feed the 3ph from the PB of the loader.

So if the feedback linkage is out of adjustment causing constant pump load....moving the joystick on the loader allows an outlet for the hydraulic fluid without forcing it over pump relief.

Has happened on several tractors I have owned. Just a slight bump forward of the 3PH lever and you can hear the tractor "relax"

Oldnslo nailed it. I dealt with this many moons ago and didn't even think of the basics when it happened again. Readjusted the stop and the issue went away.
Now if I could get my knees working again, I'd be all set!
