It’s only getting worse… many believe avoiding urban areas is the solution but my rural friends are having just as much if not more…

In the city with good neighbors much is stopped but rural often no one around to make the call or turn on the lights, etc.

More are using trackers for equipment to aid in recovery and others, especially construction sites have to have someone around and a good dog is a plus.

If you are in California law enforcement here doesn’t come out for property crime and even if caught damage under $950 gets a pass…
Today when talking to the deputy, he said to me that as hard as it might be for me to believe, there isn't much of anything that happens in this area. It all stated when the jailbird was just paroled.

IME, there seems to be a class of thieves that target new construction sites. In our case, it helped to have a locked gate at the entrance to eliminate easy drive-up access. The gate didn't turn the place into Fort Knox, but it seemed to be enough to send the crooks down the road.

I was originally questioning whether I wanted to live in the neighborhood, but the problem went away when we moved in.

Good luck.
I have owned the property for 13 years. gate went up as soon as I bought it. No issues since we moved here 3 years ago, until now.

Sorry to hear this. Get things locked down before the scumbags come back. Solar motion lights at the gate. GATE? Do you have a gate? Signage! Cameras help, but aren't always that clear and if you are new to town might not help you identify the perps.
The first time the deputy and detective were out we talked about signs.
They told me they have mixed feeling about security camera warnings: 1) they will cause a certain class to see and move on. 2) the other class will see it as "Thanks for letting me know to pull my hood up and put a mask on".

Based upon the extensive damage to the trailer skin and door, it looks like whoever did this didn't give a rip either because they are drugged up and/or some kind of violent gang types.
Crackhead.

Offer a hefty reward for anyone that turns them in and leads to their conviction. Get their buddies to snitch on them. Unless they do something really stupid, it's about the only way to catch these guys. Best if the sheriff has a way for someone to snitch anonymously. As soon as one of them has a fight with his girlfriend, she'll pick up the phone.

As far as cameras, unless they upload the images, I just assume they'll get stolen too. These guys are probably pretty good at spotting cameras.

You can get security systems and cameras with cellular cards -- or get a wifi router that uses cellular and your cameras can upload to it. Is there cell service there?

Watch Craigslist and Marketplace carefully for your stuff. You can set up searches that will send you an alert when new items matching your search are listed for sale.

Just my opinion.
They know it is two brothers.
The parole officer of one told him he suggests he turn in his brother if he doesn't want to go back to jail.

Just remember in most cases it seems cameras are useless for real evidence to catch criminals. Use them to see who is snooping around but unless you are very close friends with the police they probably can't or won't do anything.
One needs to be alerted that something is happening and then let the dogs out "because they had to do their business".
/edit
I've also found that just random firing the 12 gauge off the porches at night seems to keep people away for some reason.
We have two really, really good dogs. Trouble is my wife keeps them home and the two of them really work well as team.
Once I get the house built and living there, believe me, security will be "all of the above".

With a little imagination, it’s not hard to configure an alarm system with autodialer. If you have cell service/hotspot, setup a network for the cameras and alarm to talk to the autodialer.
There is zero power out there and unfortunately now that all my chainsaws are gone, it will be longer to get power. I have to finish cutting the right of way for the power company to set the poles. probably another two days and I would have been done.

I decided long ago that I would not shoot someone stealing unless we were in a SHTF event.

Nothing I have is worth someone a persons life.

For those of you who can shoot a thief, I offer two suggestions. Make sure you kill him/them and have a gun you can plant to argue you felt your life was under threat.

Obviously that gun must not be traceable to you and should be loaded with ammunition you do not have in your possession.

As another poster mentioned, if society does not address crime, people will be left with no choice but to take action to protect their property or themselves. IMO that is “the game plan”. To force people to shoot thieves so that “evil guns” can be banned.

Just an aside. Many years ago a couple of punks were stealing stuff from homes, hunt camps, etc. A bunch of local guys paid them a visit and beat them. The stealing stopped. Not sure that solution would work today.

Now they would end up in jail

Years ago my father had problems with dirt bikes. They liked to ride through the field 3 abreast, just about the time that he was putting the mowing machine on.
He went to the local PD with names but they said there was nothing they could do unless they saw the kids in the act
He replied "Tell them we have a lot of woodchucks and if they get in the way when I'm shooting one, I'm not responsible. "
The dirt bikes stopped.
Today he would be in jail for that comment.

Fending off violent intruders will get your gun confiscated as evidence at the very least and you may never get it back or take years to get it back.

Of course the bad guys know this.

This at the station I buy gas
