Anyone ever experience a dealer/servicer recommend to not change the hydraulic oil in a shuttle shift? They said they only recommend changing if it looks milky because there isn't anything wrong with it. I've been debating on sending the oil off to be analyzed, but I don't know where to send. Or should I just change anyways? I'm at 550 hours since it was last changed by me.

In the pre-hydrostat days we never changed hydraulic fluid, just topped off to replace leakage. Today I would probably change it in a gear tractor but at 550 hours I would wait for a convenient time.

I have a shuttle shift at about 1100 hours, I did change at 547 hours which was nearly 10 years ago.

500+ hrs isnt that much on the oil, but at 10yrs I would probably be thinking of changing. As said, no rush though.

Tractor dealer says don't change oil in $$$ tranny.
Roofer says don't trim limbs back from house.
Tire shop says don't worry about dodging junk in road.
Undertaker says don't wear a seatbelt.
🤔
Why don't they want us to take preventive measures?

I'm running the same transmission oil that came in the tractor when I received it new. It has only 500 hours and it's still perfectly fine. Unless something major happens, it will stay there till like 600 or 800 hours, maybe even 1000 hours, depending on the mood.

I did change the hydraulic filter though and will do again once it gets to that time. Not that it changes much but it's a shuttle shift transmission.

Same practice is done by pretty much everyone around here.

What does the owner's manual say?
